Folks worked for years to get the pink heart #emoji 🩷
For reasons I don’t quite understand even though I’ve read several explanations
https://blog.emojipedia.org/pink-heart-emoji-might-finally-become-reality/
I guess nobody pushed that hard for the circles
Pity. Seems like pink polka–dots would get some support
@katemorley

@katemorley unfortunately the hearts look like tofu to me

Existing Emoji compatibility basically.
Without looking through all the docs, I suspect that the coloured circles already existed in Japanese phones - so were encoded "as-is".
The hearts are more modern - https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2021/21075-heart-emoji-coverage.pdf
