@fireborn @keao @jackf723 @munchkinbear Because at the time we didn't know about Snikket, and we're trying to get all the user facing features all sorted. But hopefully we can do it in a way like how Facebook originally used XMPP for Messenger years ago before being stupid and doing their own shit. Basically Stu and I are trying to implement it in a way that users don't have to think about the protocols behind the scenes, they just create their account, log in and boom, it works.

@alexchapman @fireborn @munchkinbear @ky0les Well and if it does gain xmpp support, then this will turn into a really well-done multi-provider client such is the likes of Miranda NG (accessible but missing features) and Pigeon (POssibly outdated GTK, because inaccessible on Windows). There are some really good modern re-implementations of XMPP, consider Snikket https://snikket.org/ setup couldn't be simpler.
