The worst thing about AI coding assistants maybe isn’t the tech but the people who constantly rub it into your face how great they find it and how you should do it too and you’re wrong not trying it and “why not just do a little bit”.
I’m wondering if they’re talking about programming or snorting cocaine.
@thomasfuchs you'll achieve far more snorting #cocaine for the sake of progress than subjecting yourself to any AI or LLM....
@thomasfuchs Based on my observations, somewhere on the way from Sr Director to VP of Engineering there seems to be a mandatory secret off-site with no food, but unlimited cocaine.

I saw a dude on Facebook, blathering on about how the AI he uses at work has elevated his coding ability to that of a supernatural being. He now walks among coding problems as if he was a god. And of course it's his own model, trained on his past work, so it can't possibly be slop.

As one who preceded the cocaine as social drug era, saw people do lines in front of me, and exited the era without trying it, I do not recall any offers. I would guess mainly because I was not a woman and it was an expensive drug.
Any way, at work, it’s been suggested I incorporate AI. I’ve declined. So, it’s like the devil’s dandruff in that regard.
It's the "catch the train before it leaves" mindset that leaves me baffled.
I am purposely a late adopter, to reduce the chances of wasting my time.
If the technology proves itself useful the picking it up later has never been a problem so far

@thomasfuchs No drug user I know acts like this. We are hiding our drug use to avoid imprisonment. Fight AI *and* the drug war.

AI code just makes you think about how sand writes code faster than you.
@thomasfuchs AI code doesn't just make the user feel like shit, it also makes everyone around them feel like shit.
(Although in fairness, that might have less to do with AI itself, and more to do with how it seems like loud AI bros generally just seem to enjoy making other people feel like shit.)
@datarama Coding with AI will destroy the people using it (not everyone, some can handle themselves) because of deskilling and anti-social behavior.
@thomasfuchs Also, most of the slop machine enthusiasts I know aren't concerned about deskilling because they say skills are worthless now anyway.
