@estherschindler I think the social media advice for Mastodon is reverse and maybe for other Fediverse services as well

Mastodon allows longer alt-text than it does for the original post, so you can get more detailed with the alt-text

Also, for Mastodon, the post can be the comment on the image or be supported by the image while the alt-text is the replacement for the image
