Civil society organisations are saying enough.

We need:
🌱 Rules that protect people and planet
🔬 Evidence-based lawmaking
🚫 No more blank cheques for polluting industries

Europe’s future should prioritise health, climate, and justice - not just profits.

Trade union and NGO coalition calls out corporate "shadow roadmap" dictating EU agenda | Corporate Europe Observatory

A coalition of major civil society and trade union organisations has issued a joint declaration to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, stating that the EU Commission is prioritising a "shadow roadmap" of industry-led deregulation over democratic and environmental safeguards.

Today Commission President von der Leyen returns to #Antwerp to cosy-up to the chemicals & wider industry.

Tomorrow 🇪🇺 leaders meet in #AldenBiesen to discuss further rolling-back of social & environmental rules.
When will EU stand up to big polluters?

https://www.corporateeurope.org/en/2026/02/reaching-out

Quote from Vicky Cann, CEO researcher which says: The European Commission is getting its priorities wrong. The chemicals pollution, biodiversity, and climate crises are doing untold damage to people and environments around Europe and beyond. Yet the Commission’s leaders would rather cosy up to industry than deliver on its promises to tackle harmful chemicals. It’s time for the Commission to stand up to big polluters and deliver the strong REACH reform that it promised in 2020.

Industry’s spin and privileged access to the highest levels of the Commission, alongside the current EU hostility to new green rules and mania for deregulation, appear to have fatally undermined a key European Green Deal ambition.

This time last year when VDL went to Antwerp, she told industry that she had delivered on all 10 demands of its 2024 Antwerp Declaration.

For a quick refresher on this industry wish-list see our cartoons:

https://www.corporateeurope.org/en/2024/05/dissecting-antwerp-declaration

The cartoon shows a board room of people in suits. There is a sign saying ‘Antwerp declaration’ on the wall. Another man in a suit has a speech bubble saying “Instead of calling it more public money, more pollution, and more climate description, maybe we call it the Antwerp Declaration?” Cartoon by @CartoonRalph
