60 percent of Danes now see the USA as an adversary, according to the latest poll from Epinion.

This is a completely new situation caused by Trump threatening Greenland, and I believe this will create a lasting crisis between Denmark and the US, while affecting how Europeans in general view the Americans.

The cleanup needed after Trump will take decades.

@randahl It's better to stop trusting our government. We've done the wrong things too often.

@randahl personally I think especially for Danes this topic is sore & plays a role, but IMO this is by far not the only reason for the alienation between USamerica & the world. The non-Dane nations as well are distancing themselves & looking at the USA as potential threat/enemy. IMO it started in Jan '25 when Felon 47 announced he will make CAN his 51st state. The statistic unfortunately only is available in German but the source "statista" has always been very reliable.

Im Jahr 2025 haben 33 Prozent der befragten Personen in Deutschland ein positives und 66 Prozent ein negatives Bild von den USA.

I am not Danish, but I do not think that this only caused by US's position on Greenland.

The way that the US deals with Ukraine and Russia is part of what makes Europeans see the US as an adversary.

@randahl Assuming there will be an “after Trump”. As long as MAGA is in power nothing will be cleaned up.

@randahl I think that the cleanup won't be successful. If you can't show that something like this won't happen again, nobody will trust US again.

It would need some really deep changes in political system and I don't think that they are able to make them.

I believe the trust ship has sailed. No majority of Danes and many Europeans will never trust the US again.

Family members (American dems) have told me that as soon as a new administration comes in, everything will go back to how it was. These are the same people who have spent the last year saying “Stay focused” on the US and don’t get distracted. Sadly, they wear blinders, then can’t imagine why anything would be different or how anyone would loose trust in us.

(Not all Americans)

@Susibryant @perjakobsen @randahl Habits of not buying American won’t suddenly disappear. Trust that America won’t vote in another nut job is gone (orange is on his second term after having proven how unfit he was the first time). American arrogance and bullying in lieu of diplomacy is going to take a long time to forget. US threats to Canada will take a long time to forget.

And this is if US doesn’t begin WWIII, with US heading new axis of evil.

It is going to be a very long 3yrs to go.

@CStamp when I grew up, business relations of my uncle's would not do business with the Germans because of World War 2.

If a German called, they would just be "sold out" or "unavailable".

That was 40 years after the war.

@Susibryant @perjakobsen @randahl I have US friends who share this view. I think they're underestimating the damage being done by current US politics (not just the president), but they're also wildly overestimating Europe's reliance on the US.

The US will learn only in hindsight that its power came from our mutual alliance, via economic, academic, cultural & military ties.

It's a double blow for the US as other global regions grow. We've already watched as China shrugged off Trump's tariffs.

For the EU it seems weirdly like a test about their "adultery" as a Union.
Are they able to "stand on their own"?
🤔
Or are they gonna fall apart?
