Answering Unconformed's question: yes FSG have written off this season in terms of silverware.

But a fourth-place finish and UCL money are so very important to FSG financially that any and every move we see from here to the end of the season will only make sense under that light.

Therefore, I don't believe that the signing of Jacquet is ONLY about life after VVD like Unconformed fears. I think Jacquet's signing is about BOTH a 4th place finish, and the future.

It seems that Mac Guehi's signing only made sense earlier, before we started accumulating GA, and it only made sense whilst the asking price was low.

The theory was then that Guehi would have been able to make an instant impact to stop hemorrhaging GA.

But that boat has already sailed, the mistake of not signing a CB has been acknowledged, and I think that Jacquet is not only seen as someone who will have an impact in the future, but as someone who can make an impact today, quick.
