@David As we mention below, we're not in the U.S., and we aren't American either. We shared this here in order to gauge the international audience's views on tipping for takeout — which we did presume would be different to the Flipboard app audience, and interesting to see and discuss.

@CultureDesk We don't tip in the civilized world, we pay our staff decently.

@CultureDesk
If it’s a small family run food vendor—not a chain—that I like and want to support, I tip the same as dine in or more.

@CultureDesk @AxiosNews We don't tip in Australia, traditionally, and certainly not on take-away. We pay our workers properly!

@sister_ratched We shared this on Flipboard, where there is a predominantly U.S. audience, and one person commented that when they were a waiter and prepped takeout orders, the amount was part of the sales for the shift. The IRS assumed the server was tipped and taxed them accordingly — so without a tip, they were effectively paying for the work they had done.

@CultureDesk You shared this on the Fediverse where there is a predominatly non US audience.
Seriously, Flipboard, it's not the first time you're guilty of US defaultism. Having a predominatly US audience outside of the Fediverse is not an excuse. You can do better.

@CultureDesk Guys, if you're not Americans, it's a shame really. Because the number one reason I don't use Flipboard is because it's too US centric.
