@CorinnaBaldauf I'm wracking my brain for the Alistair Cockburn "game" quote I used when teaching agile. But Covid has stolen so many memorybconnections. #sigh

Something about two kinds of game, short and long, or immediate and continuing …
Do you know the one I mean?

Do not approach an endless game with a finite mindset. The objective is not to be done, but to settle into a daily lifestyle you can sustain and that allows you to make daily progress on the areas that matter.

Embrace the fact that life is continual and look for ways to enjoy the daily practice."

@deborahh @CorinnaBaldauf
I think the term was something like an infinite collaborative game. Where the outcome of one "round" is the setup of the next "round"

Opposed to a finite game where the are clear end criteria

@realn2s @CorinnaBaldauf yes! You are right. Finite vs. Infinite … I still don't have the quote, but found this (image).

Finite Cooperative Games: Software development differs from some cooperative games:

@deborahh

Sorry, doesn't ring a bell. Can only find this, which is quite different: https://blog.codinghorror.com/software-development-as-a-collaborative-game/

Software Development as a Collaborative Game

Alistair Cockburn maintains that software development is a cooperative game: If software development was really a science, you could apply the scientific method to it. If it was really engineering, then you could apply known engineering techniques. If software development was a matter of producing models, then you could spend

@CorinnaBaldauf @realn2s yeah. The subtitle of his later book says "a cooperative game" and a web search only finds those references. But it's from a much older book.
