I have a whole drafted blogpost about this but in the meanwhile I guess I'll spoiler it:

There are really only 2 problems I have anymore with running MNT tech as my daily driver:

- No suspend
- Recent Blender doesn't work

Other than that, it's good, and it's great to be able to open and repair.

AND, there's a really good chance the MNT Quasar module is going to fix both of the above!

@cwebber I love the idea of it. My main concers are battery life — I am used to MacBook battery life — and device drivers. How solid are those and do they perform as they are supposed to? I am aware that the machine is intended for tinkering with it but my time is limited and I do need a solid foundation. Would love to hear your perspective.

@cwebber sorry to bother you but does #spritely have an update bot for mastodon or is someone manually tagging for mastodon? Maybe I just have the wrong hashes.

@nixfreak ah sorry we don't add tags to our posts often but maybe we should. you can see @spritely and also probably I should try to tag my own #spritely posts more often too

@cwebber yeah, the suspend part makes me a bit sad, but not MNT fault! It is great kit.

@andypiper @cwebber It's also something that has a good chance of being solved real soon now, I learned at the 39C3 MNT community dinner last month.

There is actually one more problem: Guix on the rk3588 is still a work in progress situation. There's been work on it, but Guix on aarch64 is still not as nice as x86, but I run Guix Home on top of Debian Stable currently and that's a pretty ok situation!

Also that last one you can hardly blame MNT for. We gotta step up the experience of Guix on non-x86 architectures! (It has been getting better tho!)

@chirpbirb @cwebber I'm using the rk3588 module on my big Reform rather than my Pocket, but since it's the same module: works great! It's more than powerful enough for YouTube
