"In China, driverless delivery vans have become a total meme, they plow through crumbling roads, fresh concrete, motorcycles, anything. Nothing stops them."

@TheBreadmonkey WOAH, is this for real? 🤣
@TheBreadmonkey "click all the squares that contain wet concrete"
@TheBreadmonkey I want more focus on who is driving these off site, because it's typically things like either prison labor, or near-slave labor in other developing countries.
I've muted this thread. X
@TheBreadmonkey the perfect thing to transport a priceless Ming vase in - what could go wrong?
@TheBreadmonkey probably safer than a truck-load of ICE…
@TheBreadmonkey Children, pets, houses, drunks, pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists....
@TheBreadmonkey Unstoppable force meeting (theoretically) immovable objects.
@TheBreadmonkey I'm so happy that both Americans & Chinese enjoy making fun of the same stupid things that techbros do.
@TheBreadmonkey As long as it moves fast while it's breaking things, we're good.
Seems to be a strong competitor for Tesla 😂😂
Ehhhhhh…. They what???
@TheBreadmonkey yes, but was the package delivered. That is the important question.
@TheBreadmonkey this is just too fantastic!
YOU ARE TOO FANTASTIC KIM
@TheBreadmonkey Here in Jersey City, we have Uber Eats robots delivering food—but I think even these have human beings piloting them remotely, like military drones. They get themselves into jams, like when there are flooded streets, but haven't *yet* risen to this level of hilarity.
@TheBreadmonkey no brakes, no conscience, just an algorithm with a delivery deadline. Human drivers avoid potholes; AI treats them as optional terrain. Hehe don't mind me, they are still the best!
@TheBreadmonkey Wow… so uhhh … there is a VERY bigoted opinion in the states about how bad Chinese people drive 😳 …. yes there is some reasons for this assumption but I will say right now that I only believe in individual bad drivers and nothing to do with their race… however… these robots have taken bad driving to a whole other level 😹
@TheBreadmonkey rather gallows humor, isn't it? How many people had had the bad fortune to get run down by those driverless vans?
@TheBreadmonkey I'll have the hot'n'sour soup and the Bò Lúc Lắc (Shaking Beef)
Does anyone know the song playing? I need it on loop for Mondays like this one.
It's in the thread 😊🕺
@TheBreadmonkey found it! Thanks mate!
My neighbors will love this!
@TheBreadmonkey found it! Thanks mate! My neighbors will love this
@TheBreadmonkey Awesome! Time to start testing passenger transport.
@TheBreadmonkey they are so fast as well wtf
@TheBreadmonkey
This is soooo funny! You should probably not order any fragile goods…
@TheBreadmonkey Wow.
Kind of an interesting metaphor for the Trump administration, though.
@TheBreadmonkey "The mail's gotta get through!"
@TheBreadmonkey every new advancement in technology is made of many failures.
@TheBreadmonkey Excellent. Now the Chinese are leading exporters of humor.
@TheBreadmonkey When "high tech" devices are high on… something…
@TheBreadmonkey I would be really worried about my Pizza 🍕
@TheBreadmonkey +++ BREAKING +++ Chuck Norris got finally beaten by a driverless delivery van in China. +++
There was no way to stop it, according to bystanders.
@TheBreadmonkey arriving in London in (check notes...) 2026!!!
@TheBreadmonkey taking "move fast and break things" to another level. "If only we had that much leeway in the US," cry the TechBros.
@TheBreadmonkey our future’s so bright, you gotta wear shades… and definitely full body armour.
@TheBreadmonkey gotta crawl before you can walk.
@TheBreadmonkey "But I wrote "FRAGILE" on the box!
@TheBreadmonkey 😂 can't stop laughing!
@TheBreadmonkey Oh, the videos found their ways into the Fediverse.
@TheBreadmonkey Trained on my driving.
@TheBreadmonkey still more reliable and likely to get your parcel to you in one piece than Evri.
@TheBreadmonkey "I didnt order scrambled eggs..." springs to mind
@TheBreadmonkey Why do you bring content from X here?
@TheBreadmonkey Yeah! Cyberpunk-future - but shitty :D
@TheBreadmonkey just give this truck a parcel catapult on the top and it could replace Evri.
@TheBreadmonkey look at all the nice things we could have too, if we would just get rid of those nasty safety regulations that prevent and harm innovation!
@TheBreadmonkey See, that's why I never trusted the delivery bots in Death Stranding.
@TheBreadmonkey
Well, that explains what happened to the China plates I ordered from Ali Express.
Yikes, yeah what is the acceptable life altering injury / death toll limit for efficiency in China?
@TheBreadmonkey
I think they went to the same driving school as DHL drivers 😉
Mad Dash 3: Rise of the Machines
@TheBreadmonkey trolley problems? What trolley problems?
@TheBreadmonkey Okay but where can I find the music from this clip 😅
@scy i'm also interested in the music, almost tempted to make a reddit account and ask whoever posted it @TheBreadmonkey
@TheBreadmonkey ah, i see someone linked to a music video for the song too
@scy
@TheBreadmonkey the future is now!
@TheBreadmonkey "We are very determined to deliver your parcel" (and oblivious to any external harm)
@TheBreadmonkey missed opportunity not to give them names and faces then build a kids tv franchise around them
@nicol @TheBreadmonkey Years ago my friend suggested a replacement to Asimov's threee laws of robotics, something like:
"1. A robot must have a name
2. A robot must have a face
3. A robot should be allowed to hurt a human, if it wants"
@TheBreadmonkey This is the sort of stuff that I don't know if they will manage to fix for autonomous vehicles. Lots of stats show that when it comes to actual accidents, that driverless vehicles are as safe or safer than human drivers. (Though still have weaknesses in specific situations.) But a human driver wouldn't generally drive into fresh concrete. And would stop if they realised they were dragging a motorbike. They just can't deal with the unpredictable nature of an urban street.
@TheBreadmonkey Ahhh technology, don't you just love it.
@TheBreadmonkey Move fast and break things.
@TheBreadmonkey Subtile Möglichkeit, die Bevölkerung zu reduzieren?
@TheBreadmonkey this is not the future BackToTheFuture promomised me.
where's my damn hover board! (which I will not be able to use without serious injury anyway, but ignore that fact please!)
@TheBreadmonkey reminded of the scene with the driverless trucks in Logan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAwc1XIOFME
@TheBreadmonkey the funniest thing it giving it a kick solves a problem
Safe, reliable, efficient, those are words, that won't come to my mind watching "AI" revolution happening in front of our eyes.
@TheBreadmonkey No eggs were harmed during transport.
