@idzie There are no chipmunks in India, so my understanding of the difference between North American squirrels and chipmunks is at the level of "big and scary" vs. "small and cute". This one certainly fits better in the latter bucket.

@amenonsen grey squirrels are by far the most common mammal around my house, and I wouldn't consider them scary but they are chunky and I certainly wouldn't want to tangle with an adult one. 😅 Red squirrels aren't as common right around me, but there are a couple that zip through my yard on a regular basis, both smaller and much faster than the grey squirrels. And the chipmunks are adorable tiny menaces that spend the entire summer yelling at me for daring to exist in their general vicinity
@idzie This is a red squirrel. I think they're active year-round, but don't quote me on that.
You are 100% correct and I'm more migraine addled than I thought! I saw a chipmunk photo in my folder, and it was in my head that that was what I was posting, even when I was actively describing the photo in front of me 😭
@idzie In the summertime they come to our bird feeder (usually in pairs) and eat all the seed. We call them little stinkers.
@catuscay sounds about right haha
I find it interesting how quickly the balance of whether there are mainly grey or red squirrels shifts around me. In my yard it's mostly grey squirrels, with just one or two red squirrels that zip through on a regular basis. But when I go to a local friend's house, who's at a bit of a higher elevation and with a surrounding forest that has more conifers, suddenly it's mostly red with fewer grey!
