in my tiny village of 5000 people (mind you we’re in the north, close to Switzerland), the explosions are so loud and lasting well into the middle of the night (like 2:30am) that my child is absolutely terrified… never mind pets or people with PTSD or war refugees.
Now I leave Italy just before the 31st and camp out at my in-laws in France where there is blissful silence outside at midnight
@_elena @Gina hope that ban would come to Finland as well. Here the kids have been playing with the fireworks for few days and will continue that for the next few weeks...
I hope the municipalities / cities would organize actually great fireworks midnight in the city centers without giving everyone access to fireworks.

@Gina fireworks have been banned in the city here for many years, but every year, people at the end of the block light off their stash they got across the state line ;o)

That is really sad, so sorry to read this. Remember staying next to the beautiful Vondelpark a few years back. Just read that some of the fireworks that get brought into the Netherlands from Germany and Belgium have the impact of bombs or grenades. This ban cannot come soon enough.
@JugglingWithEggs It was getting more ridiculous every year, like living in a war zone. I'm glad the ban is finally taking effect.
Also, after years of literal deaths and destruction, the fireworks sector still has the audacity to file a claim with the government for compensation after the ban. Ghouls.

Omliggende woningen van de Vondelkerk worden ontruimd. Door de brand is een enorme vonkenregen ontstaan die in oostelijke richting trekt, laat een woordvoerder van de Veiligheidsregio Amsterdam-Amstelland weten.
