"The mistake that every investor, commentator, analyst and member of the media makes about NVIDIA is believing that its sales are an expression of demand for AI compute, when it’s really more of a statement about the availability of debt from banks and private credit."

@pluralistic I don't think many make any mistake, they want to be da playa at the casino as well.
Almost none of them take "long term prospects and investment" seriously, like no one has done it for like 15 years now.

@pluralistic There is so many petrodollars, and they can't be spent
on the actual innovation of our age -- solar panels and batteries rebuilding the entire world's energy infrastructure. Venture capitalists invent endless schemes to attract these funds: AI is the latest in a long list. It's the most egregious excess of our age of excesses.

@pluralistic Well, *cough* that's true for a surprising amount of goods and transactions today, just because it is being bought does not mean that the demand is honest, or that the people would buy the same things if financing or other external guardrails would not guide them.

But #nvidia is worse, they are literally walking the line, but as far as they can get they are literally investing in their own customer, they are basically sending the money in a loop. But hey, it's legal they say.
