To what extent is that true? Before this latest wave of suspensions, Twitter had already suspended the account posting the location of Musk’s jet. Then, the platform removed John Mastodon, the founder of a competing social media company named after himself, for posting a link to the jet tracker’s Mastodon account.

UPDATE: This post has been updated to correct the original characterization of the Join Mastodon Twitter account as being the account of “John Mastodon,” who is not a person as far as we know.

@rysiek yet it was only today that it occurred to me that "John" was a misreading of "Join". I never second-guessed that name and just thought they invented a founder because they couldn't wrap their head around a non-venture capital-backed social network.

And will we ever know who ran @JohnMastodon ?

I don't understand how a single article like this just causes people to stop reading a news source completely. If their one article is effectively made up then how do we know that all their articles aren't made up?
