There are 195 countries in the world. Trump is currently threatening military action against Venezuela and Greenland (part of Denmark).

Why these two countries?

Picture 1: Venezuela ranks number 1 in oil reserves.

Picture 2: Greenland ranks number 8 in rare earth deposits.

Maybe Greenland is safe for now, because Denmark is a member of NATO. But Venezuela is not, and that is where 10 of the largest US war ships are now launching “Operation Southern Spear”.

@randahl 1. Venezuela crude is cruddy. The US has extensive shale reserves and is a net energy exporter. There’s no future is processing Venezuelan crude

2. Trump promised manufacturing jobs. An old fashioned war with Venezuela would do just that

3. Trump doesn’t know where the current war is being fought or the technologies reinventing warfare (Europe).

(This is why gerontocracy must end. TIA’s or mild dementia aren’t great for our foreign or economic policies)

@randahl Even if one has no ethical objections, Venezuela seems like an abjectly terrible idea because, while their reserves are large, they are already fairly dependent on foreign expertise. A lot of the refining capacity well suited to their crude is already in the US, and PDVDSA only really does trickier deposits in cooperation with one multinational or another that has strong technical chops. No way you'd be able to get a boot on their neck for less than the royalties they'd settle for.

@randahl you are ascribing far, far too much intelligence to people who basically openly emailed about committing felony rape and more.

You want to know why Venezuela?

Maduro didn't scrape and bow for Twitler, and the 'opposition' leader they're backing to topple him is to the right of Hitler and happy to play ball with the same.

@randahl they are looking to install Maria Machado. Some things she has said:
- Trump should get the Nobel Peace Prize for ending 'so many conflicts'
- Government should privatize everything by handing it out to her friends
- Anyone they describe as a 'Communist' should be shot in the street
- Now claims Maduro backs Hamas
- She has openly said they have a plan for the first 100 hours after Trump kills Maduro
- Nowhere in any of these plans are there elections ever again

@randahl Many wars, conflicts and skirmishes the US has been involved in since its inception have been about resource protection (of our corporate or national assets).

What is being done now is raw imperialism. Taking other people's resources by military force. It isn't about stopping the flow of drugs.

This is how Russia operates. Instead of selling goods and services overseas, the economy is propped-up by stolen resources. The end result - unproductive society with one rich guy at top.

@randahl considering the threats Trump made against Canada as well, I'd think there's several things in common, both vast land with ressources but also, northern countries in a warming world.. and who knows, maybe the proximity to Russia as well could be a factor

To me, it's just further proof that it's not Trump, it's #project2025 to use him as an "instrument" for interests.

I think it's common sense that he's simply incapable of planning anything other than satisfying his own ego.
