@Em0nM4stodon Not using the cloud to store sensitive data. Also, less AI.

@Em0nM4stodon What gives me the most hope is that you are here on this planet to fight against the crimes of big tech companies.

@Em0nM4stodon rising public awareness. Technology is there, but actual demand is still too low.

Deep down people don't think the invasion of privacy is a good thing, they accept it to get on with their life. Compared to cars, for which the whole world has been remodeled, and thus are now mandatory in most cases. We're at the point were the world isn't yet built *around* data theft so it is still time to get rid of it. But they're working hard on it, the window is closing.

@Em0nM4stodon that governments, organizations and also people slowly realize that they can’t rely on data that is not in their own control aka not self-hosted

@Em0nM4stodon More focus on using European platforms and services. There are many great solutions made in Europe and they are usually privacy-friendly. AI can be good. Cloud storage can be good. Social media can be good. Etc. The platforms just need to be built the right way - and they often are in Europe.

How about a secure, private, peer-to-peer cloud? -> #AutonomiDweb

@Em0nM4stodon - The part that gives me the most hope is hearing people engaging less and less with corporate social media.

Some come to the Fediverse, sure, but not a lot.

I mean folks just getting offline more and more. Touching grass. Engaging with local community and hanging out more in person.

Less online engagement means more privacy.

@Em0nM4stodon In 1984 at the very end of the novel, Winston recalls a tender childhood memory… a moment of joy and love that is untouched by Big Brother… suggesting that some humanity endures, even in the face of overwhelming oppression. Hence compartmentalization and the free will.
