I feel irked when people misuse the term “enshittification" to mean things getting more shit rather than the “pathway to exploitation” that Cory Doctorow defined.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular and I don’t feel it's a hill I will die on, as they say. Language is language and I guess if the meaning gets lost, that's just the way it goes.

My understanding was that the word was more general that "pathway to exploitation". My understanding was that the word described the inevitability of feature creep that occurred due to certain corporate structures and inevitably made products worse rather than better, noting that this feature creep was particularly evident and egregious in software due to the ease of digital changes. And that one consequence of #enshittification was that large monopolies produced a pathway to exploitation.
