found on bsky found on tumblr

i checked mine and yep. check yours.

EDIT: hi FOSS evangelists, we're already on fucking Mastodon. This is like walking up to someone in church who's wearing a white collar and asking if they've heard of Jesus.

digitaldiscipline

unfuck google drive by shooting gemini

Hey folks! Google is fucking you via sneaky enshittification again!

Want the shit in your google drive to load instantly again, instead of taking for-fucking-ever?

Open your gdrive (web OR app)
Settings > Manage Apps

Gemini was checked "use as default” (and i sure the fuck didn't set it that way, this was a silent push)

Nuke that, and suddenly, folders that took up to a minute to populate and sort do so in a fraction of a second.

Thanks for this advice: I found it on the Web settings interface (in two places, confusingly: I turned both off).

Or, you see, simply set up an echo network of focused parabolic repeater radios spaced at precise Schumann resonant intervals across your county to imprison your data in a geodesic reflection mesh, retrievable at any one of the convenient antinodes in the geometric median between repeaters by holding a vial of plasmodic aether draped in a fine copper foil to the heavens and allowing it to re-enter the spirit. Using google instead of a harmonic ether grid is just begging to be #enshittified

Horse, barn. The data was likely already fed to the model.

The data must be encrypted by *you* before storing in a cloud.

@davidgerard Folks, you can't fix stupid. Take your data to a local solution under your personal control, and shove all that Google cloud crap where the sun don't shine.

Every action remaining within the Google universe will be futile. Don't be evil!

@dazzr@social.tchncs.de Please describe for us how to do this reliably and without putting one's livelihood at risk if one works for a corporation that requires use of Google cloud products. If your description includes finding a different job, please detail a reliable method by which the user can find a workplace that does not use big tech cloud products and secure employment with them at equal or greater compensation. @davidgerard@circumstances.run

@abucci @dazzr @davidgerard
Don't be thick about this; your work's data is not *your* data. Take *your* data off Google.

I've also had to use Google shit for work, and my solution is/was to use a different browser than my personal goto exclusively for accessing Google. A little hassle, occasionally, but keeps work nicely separated from life, and keeps Google's surveillance nicely contained (as far as that's possible at a personal level.)
