@migrant It's not really sales that trigger this (publishers won't have that data from retailers for months) - it's orders from retailers.

@pluralistic Bought my copy today at Point Reyes Books. What a great bookstore! I’m looking forward to reading it.
@pluralistic
I think that I first saw you in xkcd. Then I got to read your books and finally meet you in Minneapolis.
Congratulations!
@pluralistic I hope there were some left going to be shipped to germany ...?
@maikek German orders are being fulfilled out of the UK edition, not the US. If you've completed your survey it should already be in the post (I sent a batch out last Weds and will do another this coming Weds).
@pluralistic Thanks for replying and providing us here with stuff 😎. My local bookstore handled the order, they told me it would be 12 days. Still eight to go ...
@pluralistic I opened the book today and a video of your book tour began playing in the top right corner. The close button is small, oh so small, and it’s impossible to press.
@pluralistic picking up a copy as soon as Verso offers it, my local bookstore closed :(
@rapscalorie Sorry to hear it!
@pluralistic Nice! Congrats! It's a great read; well deserved! 🎉🥰
@pluralistic Just came home from my local bookstore. Unfortunately they didn't have it yet, but at least I could finally get Picks'n'shovels, which I had on my "want to read" list for months.
@pluralistic It may seem like a nice book now, but I'm cynically expecting the later editions to become more and more enshitified, cheaper paper and ink, entire chapters missing, worst cover art, a demand to make an online account before starting to read ...
@ghouston @pluralistic And filled with ads. Oh, so many ads.
@neirbowj @ghouston @pluralistic is there a cookie banner telling me the publishers and their 1327 carefully vetted partners care about my privacy but *these* ones are legitimate interest.
@craignicol @neirbowj @ghouston @pluralistic I m imaging a cookie banner for books, like a wrap made of 600 postcards you have to separate and send before reading.
Strick a chord, have we?
@pluralistic Just got my copy from my local, independent bookstore!
@pluralistic Wow, so how many books did you sell overall in 65 hours? And congrats!!

@pluralistic So the publisher fronts the books to retailers to sell? Or do the retailers by them from the publisher?
@migrant Retailers buy returnable stock from publishers; wholesalers also take returnable orders from publishers and sell them to retailers.
@pluralistic congratulations. Unless, of course, it is, like mine, print on demand. Good to know your editor is so on the ball.
@pluralistic
Congrats. I'm still catching up with your writing.
@pluralistic
Congratulations 🎉
Will there be translations, like german, available soon?
@pluralistic
Dude, I was just talking about you to one of my colleagues yesterday who didn't know who you were but knew what #enshittification was. Your meme has metastasized into mainstream consciousness.
PS I didn't know you had a new book, so I (back)ordered it. Congratulations
@pluralistic
They underestimated you by a large margin. They won't next time. Congrats!
@pluralistic To riff on #Jaws, you’re gonna need a bigger printer…
Also: congratulations!
@pluralistic Mazel tov. I've been reading it (ARC) and enjoying it.
@pluralistic They obviously need to run bigger lots. Congratulations!
@pluralistic what does that mean?
@pluralistic Congratulations!
@pluralistic congratulations!
