Good morning, #BSDCafe
Good morning, #illumosCafe
Good morning, #Fediverse

Today's task is to find a new solution using old tech but with a fresh approach. I'm sure it'll start with excitement, then move on to frustration, stress, and total hatred for the technology. Eventually, I'll have a great idea that turns out to be a dead end. You know, just another day.

@stefano What exactly are you trying to do when you refer to 'old tech'? Is it for sustainability, saving resources or more like the #permacomputing culture, which most of the time wants to explore what would be possible?

My motiviation is mostly 'sustainablity', e.g. using old cheap routers from ebay as #OpenWRT-Devices serving DNS, DHCP. BUT ONLY when they don't consume a lot of energy.

This is a stop sign for me: Running old hardware that consumes 3 times more electricity while being 10 times less powerful than a modern device.

@xinqu by old tech I don't mean old hardware, but some solutions that have been around for many years but used in a different way. I think it's possible, but I have to create this
