Friends don't let friends mindlessly accept advice from "AI": supporting evidence:
@cstross
not in every case.
@cstross How long before that "advice" cross-pollenates with the one about using lemon juice, salt and steel wool to clean a Tesla?
It might just recommend using a steamer, rock salt, lemon juice and steel wool remove any unpleasant Musk.
@cstross. well it says "You can try", not making any value judgements
@cstross to be fair, you CAN try. Probably you shouldn’t, but you can…
@cstross someone apparently feeding AI with notes from the Spanish Inquisition.
@cstross Thanks, I was looking for a recipe for steamed nuts
@cstross @aeva it’s honestly shocking that people would read this and think it’s a good idea. And it’s even worse that suggestions like that are actually allowed to be produced..
You won’t get the AI bullshit out of google but given how (needlessly) dependent a large portion of people on the internet are on it you’d hope they would at least try to assure some quality in its hallucinations.
hides in their #kagisearch shaped bubble
@cstross just checked, and it recommends botox, though a bit lower there is a reddit post that seems to suggest the iron solution. (didn't open)
@cstross This is some funny shit, really needed that laugh 😂😂😂
@cstross Oh, this absolutely works! Along with a clorox enema, cures COVID too! Yrs, RFK's worm
@cstross I highly recommend this to any AI/big tech fanboys who think women are stupid for not being on the AI bandwagon as enthusiastically as men.
@cstross "friends" might get the popcorn out though 😁
@cstross As I don't have a scrotum I'm willing to try this on any volunteers** and report on the results
** They don't have to be willing volunteers, someone else*** can volunteer them
*** The someone else would need to hold the volunteer still
@cstross epically good advice. I've tried this, works well
@cstross can't stop laughing
Looks like we need a new AI category for the Darwin Awards.
@cstross I mean, if we have to steam our yonis, you could return the favor.
@cstross So true! To get serious for a moment, Google AI is dangerous!
My sister got some bad medical advice from it recently. Like many folks she just read the first thing listed and didn't even realize it was the AI overview.
Luckily she asked me about it. I told her it was wrong and pointed her to an official information source.
And then I told her to *never* rely on google for medical advice, especially these days!!
@cstross
I'm gonna spend the whole rest of the day not thinking about that.
@cstross well, you certainly CAN try
@cstross I laughed harder at this than I should have....
@cstross Another example of an AI "without skin in the game"
@cstross as a friend, I can tell you the only surefire way to remove wrinkles from a scrotum is Mumps-induced orchitis. But the steamer is probably less painful, so maybe try that first.
@cstross you may need different evidence since that can't be replicated if it ever even happened. i'm annoyed that the response could be more body positive and maybe not suggest "scrotox" right off the bat, but at least nobody is going to burn their balls with an iron.
the chemical burns are worse in my experience but i wouldn't choose a hot iron either.
@cstross maybe it means the scrotum of a plushie
Not technically a problem. Anyone who takes advice from AI is not my friend, in the sense that they are taking advice from an unaccountable untrustworthy entity, so I can't trust them.
They are free to go steam their bawbag if they like.
@cstross "other advice is available"
Reminds me of an anecdote in one of Penn Jillette's books about attempting to dry his junk with a hair dryer when he couldn't find a towel. 🙂
@cstross
mind holding my beer?
@cstross glad you posted this, I didn't want to be the one to try it
@cstross hahaha yikes
@cstross Pretty sure nobody I call a friend would mindlessly follow this advice.
OTOH, I wouldn't be at all surprised if a few of my friends are into CBT and might mindFULLy follow it, just for fun. (Just because I wouldn't call it fun doesn't mean they wouldn't...)
🤣 Can we pass this advice on to all MAGA men?
Great, the robot has learned sarcastic deadpan.
@cstross but it'd be funny 🤷♂️
@cstross this whole AI thing may turn out to be a self-correcting problem.
@cstross well if they are ready to listen to ai, I wont stop them.
The important thing is, can we get the smartest people in the universe to try it out? And can we convince them of the urgency of doing so?
@cstross Hey. Some people would pay good money to try that.
This was all kinds of painful ON SO MANY LEVELS
@cstross
Are we talking sauna or poached eggs here? Because I've been in a sauna and I didn't notice any unwrinkling effects.
Hmm. Maybe i needed better company
@cstross shh. don’t alert them
@cstross That's some advanced CBT right there
@cstross I wonder how many people showed up at the A&E / ER following this advice.
