A friend had a 12 hour wait recently, including having to wait outside in the cold because there was not enough seating inside and there were 77 people in the ED already. Upon being seen they could only prescribe painkillers and said go home and come back if it gets worse. "And wait another 12 hours?" "Yes, sorry". Now has to wait for a doctor's appointment to get referred to a specialist while in excruciating pain, taking panadol for pain releif, earliest appointment is in two weeks, all other doctors are in the same boat.

Some of you voted for this - do not be misled by warm fuzzies come election time!!!

Two months ago my elderly neighbour fell and broke her pelvis. She managed to crawl inside to the phone, but it took five hours for an ambulance to arrive. Five hours!

Once in Dunedin Hospital she spent two days in the A&E corridor because there were no beds available in the wards.

Our public health system was much better than this, not so very long ago.
