My toothbrush has logged me out. I have seen the future and it's stupid.

Watch out, there may be pictures of your cavities all over the internet by now 😁 😁 😁
Oh well, maybe not that far yet, but everybody knows at what time your brush your teeth, how many times, and when you are not home (ouch! )

@sjvn For the record, the Oral-B app on Android works fine without network permission. I removed its network permission on install, and it just entirely hid every UI component related to the account system and stored all data locally on-device. It still connects to the toothbrush, lets me change settings, track brushing sessions, etc.

I didn't even know Oral-B had an account system until someone else told me!

@sjvn assuming the preposterous for a second — that having your toothbrush logged into an account on their server gives you something extra that's useful — what's the threat scenario that requires a password here?

what bad thing will happen if another toothbrush maliciously logs into your account?

@sjvn The future is 25€ sonic toothbrush compatible with Philips brush heads from Drogerie Markt. Cheap, no nonsense, repairable sonic toothbrush.

I'm a tech freak, but this is just stupid. You absolutely don't need a god damn account for a fucking toothbrush.

Are there no simple non-electronic toothbrushes available in the market? I have always been amused when I have seen electric toothbrushes in movies. Couldn't imagine what addition benefit I would get if my toothbrush is electric.

@sjvn I refuse to buy any device that needs to be connected to the internet to operate.

They do NOT need to know when I brush my teeth, make my coffee, wash or dry my clothes. They just do not.

(I'm also completely over Roku etc)

@sjvn You actually don’t need an account for Oral-B. You can skip it. I don’t have an account and it still works fine even with offering data to Apple HealthKit. I think Phillips ones however do require registration and fill your mouth with innocent blood while they still do trade in Russia. Two reasons to avoid theirs.
