@zzt the editor API is absolutely not perfect but elisp is imo a very tight and well designed language and the editor API is by far better than any alternative i've seen. i would totally support another editor that understands how crucial the editor API is to user-level control but nobody seems to really appreciate that part

@zzt imho you should really use awk for any nontrivial string operations as it's almost a complete programming language but sed is really cute
@hipsterelectron that’s actually something I love about doing vim in emacs, you get vim bindings and ex commands for essentially live coding editor interactions and Lisp as a programming language for anything deeper than that — including creating more vim bindings
