European Commission
@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu  ·  activity timestamp 2 months ago

The EU-US deal restores stability and predictability for citizens and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.

It secures continued access for EU exports to the US market, preserving deeply integrated value chains and safeguarding jobs. It provides the basis for continued collaboration.

The deal sets out the parameters of the EU-US trade relationship. It is the first step in a process that will be further expanded over time to cover additional areas and continue to improve market access.

EU and US flags beside each other.
EU and US flags beside each other.
EU and US flags beside each other.

Pathetic and weak.

I believed that we had some dignity, but now I see the EU submitting to the US. Pathetic.

You are aggravating the military dependency on an unreliable ally who is threatening to invade a European country and friendly nations across the ocean. Weak.

@EUCommission would have been interesting to have seen if the EU still would have signed this deal if it was not so dependant on:
- Fossil fuel (we need to decarbonize)
- US software (we need to support and transition to FOSS)
- US military (we need to be able to defend ourselves)

@EUCommission what you should have done is unite with china mexico canada from the beginning and fought back twice as hard as the US fought you. You could have gotten a good deal if you had fought together. But instead you have been licking Trumps most insufficient veins.

Also I encourage anyone who reads this to contact the EU MEPs of their country. A list with their email adresses can be found on the EU website. We might still be able to stop this nonsense.
Also people in your government.

#BiggestDealEver

"It is the first step in a process that will be further expanded over time to cover additional areas and continue to improve market access."

This is rubbish.
The outcome doesn't need to be whitewashed:
#Trump realized that (esp. Eastern) Europe had a rebound of the #RedScare + therefore could be browbeat into an almost completely unfair + unfairable deal.

The only way to go is to finally have a European Army and to further diversify globally at full speed:

@EUCommission So, we get tariffs of most goods increased by multiples. And for the honour of being subjected to those tariffs, we also get to guarantee 500 billion € in investments and 700 billion in fossil fuels.

Question: Has anyone at the EU thought about just having all that money invested in the EU and other friendly countries instead? Sounds like that might have made up for the few weeks Trump would have been able to keep the 30% tariff before faltering...

Incredible!

It's ridiculous how you are posting this nonsense for the third time (!) today, desperately trying to sell your surrender and submission to a bully as success.

You have encouraged the orange man to use his strategy again, whenever and wherever he wants to, because he can rely on you to bend over again, ready to be screwed again and again.

And you have turned yourself into a clown by now, trying to hammer home silly, delusional messages while everybody can see how abysmally you've failed.

Please, stop this. You are embarrassing. What happened is humiliating enough for European citizens already, stop making it even worse by exposing us further as a laughing stock.

You let the US bully you into an unfavourable deal. The very same US who are currently descending into fascism.

I would have loved to see a strong and principled EU. However, we saw an EU that talks about ideals instead of living them. An EU that values trade and markets much higher than ethical values when the push comes to shove.

I am so very disappointed.

Hello @matthias_weber!
During the negotiations, the EU has held firm on the things that matter to our citizens and businesses. For example, by liberalising certain trade that is of mutual interest from the US into the EU, our importers and consumers will save around €5 billion in duties each year, while core EU industrial and agricultural sensitivities remain protected.
