The New York Times Pitchbot creates satiric examples of headlines reflecting the "Paper of Record" fetish for (among other things) normalizing right wing extremism.

The headline below -- "Should ICE Agents Be Allowed to Wear Masks? It Depends Whom You Ask." -- is NOT from Pitchbot.

Head=>desk.

NYT actual headline: "Should ICE Agents Be Allowed to Wear Masks? It Depends Whom You Ask."

I'm annoyed how the issue of police and ICE employees using physical force but refusing to identify themselves is being conflated with masks.

"Masked Men" becomes a shorthand for "people who refuse to tell you who they are"

The real issue isn't the mask, the masks are part of an incorrect belief that people working for the state should be able to do so anonymously.

No you may not. If that is a problem then perhaps there is something wrong with the job you have been asked to do.

In the abstract, if people show up and start grabbing you or people you know and won't tell you who they are or allow it to be filmed by 3rd parties then one ought to be able to fight back and try to escape because how do you know it's not just... randos kidnapping people?

I say in the abstract since I have first hand examples of this NOT being the case.

Adding "it depends who you ask" doesn't get away from Betteridge's Law, it just means the answer to the headline question is "No, and no it doesn't" instead of just "No".

They're asking the wrong question.

Should NYT be allowed or enabled to ASK the STUPID question? If so WHY? Please use a BOT in your answer & colour it BROWN so it can be easily identified. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

If journalism ceases to provide critical opinion it does not deserve to exist.

In this case it depends if you ask reasonable people or fascists (…).

Unbelievable…

The NY Times is the Fox News of print. Do not trust them. There are foreign newspapers that have English language versions on the Internet. Read those instead.
