You might have noticed that I’m rather skeptical of many current applications of “AI” (including the shift of the term to primarily mean “Generative AI”). But there is one application that I find really intriguing: The #PaperFinderhttps://paperfinder.allen.ai from #AllenAI 1/

It seems to be thoughtfully designed (with a long article explaining the considerations), follows academic practices, and simply is genuinely helpful. https://allenai.org/blog/paper-finder It builds on #SemanticScholar and verifies #GenAI output against an actual database of academic publications. 2/

And finally, literature research is the part of academic knowledge production where I feel this simply cannot be done without any element of “AI.” Any literature database now has some sort of “relevance ranking.” One could even say that a huge branch of AI is rooted in Information Retrieval. So I think it actually makes sense here to leverage technological advancement in a sensible manner. 3/

Am I being too positive about it? What are your thoughts on this? Would you recommend this to students? 4/4
