In October 2023 the University of Groningen Library decided to quit Twitter and transition to the Fediverse. See here @babetteknauer's story of the first year: https://www.rug.nl/library/open-access/blog/one-year-after-x-embracing-open-science-on-mastodon
Babette Knauer about their engagement strategy: the fediverse is about communities, so we thought to redesign our communication strategy to stop broadcasting and listen to our community, ask them what they want.
Wendy Hoenkamp: obviously the community on the fediverse is much smaller, but the engagement is much higher. Connections are more real.
Elena Rossini mentioned so.ething similar and how she made many friends. Peoplehelping each other, voluntarily sending her subtitle translations (unasked). She never ever saw something like that in the corporate socials.
It was so spectacular to hear your enthousiast stories about your way into the Fediverse, @_elena how you had the courage to selfhost several fediverse servers. And now you have your own interconnected spot on the community network. That IS really empowering!
So great to value the true connections. Only here on the fedi (tm ;-p)
