Exactly. I don't like giving people sources because I have read a subset of things in the field (even fields I actively work in) and the sources I give them will be a subset of those. There may be strong counterarguments that I've entirely missed and, if they find such a thing from a reputable source, we both learn something. If I just give them a subset of things, they will see things that support my view and neither of us really gets more than if they just believed me.
There's little difference between trusting me to faithfully report on the contents of sources I've read and distilled and trusting me to not cherry pick a bunch of sources that support my point. I'd much rather people didn't do either, but if they're going to do the latter then they may as well do the former: it's less effort for both of us and has the same outcome.
But I also don't want to sound like the 'I did my own research' people.

If those people don't like your sources -- e.g., think the research is flawed or that you've cherry-picked them or that your "facts" are false -- they can find their own sources. Or they can show how your sources are wrong/biased/whatever.
After all, they're the ones saying "I did my own research", and they never hesitate to give out their own biased/fabricated sources.
@CyberPunker As they're already releasing Starlink V2 satellites, and the next flight is expected to have a full pez dispenser, that'll give us a low bar for *current* payload mass. Bearing in mind of course that the pez dispenser itself is part of the payload.
@cstross The article looked convincing to me and the author juggled with some numbers about the mass of the starship, the mass of the fuel, how fast it is and needs to be and that it needs more fuel to reach higher speed to reach the promised payload.
He concludes that is would not be possible.
But i'm no rocket scientist (and i think the author is neither) so we will see.

Intent to ship: JPEG XL. @jaffathecake explains that Firefox is shipping JPEG XL support built on jxl-rs, the Rust decoder from Google Research that avoids the security surface of the 100,000-line C++ implementation. AVIF still wins on photos at lossy quality, but JPEG XL is better at lossless, recompressing JPEGs, and at progressive rendering, so large images appear as they download. I have never had a credit card and am being exogenously forced to learn about how the credit industry works. Do I have this right, where it is optimal for my credit score to have high credit velocity at some ideal debt proportion. AKA is the minmaxed credit score speedrun strategy to vibrate around like 30% of my credit limit by charging $1 back and forth at ~gigahertz frequencies
