Similarly - following the line of their UK parent group - SEG try to spin the Greens as being pro-war. A party for whom non-violence is one of their 4 core values;
https://www.greens.org.nz/charter
They claim that;
"The party backed the US-NATO war against Ukraine"
https://community.scoop.co.nz/2026/03/new-zealand-government-backs-criminal-war-against-iran/
That sentence is, in itself, a pretty impressive example of Naomi Klein's Mirror World. But here are some examples of what Greens actually said about Ukraine;
(7/?)
The SEG also claim that the Greens;
"... argued for a major increase in NZ’s military spending."
https://community.scoop.co.nz/2026/03/new-zealand-government-backs-criminal-war-against-iran/
This seems ... unlikely. Again, here's an example of what Greens were really saying during the 2017-23 government they were part of;
"That is a lot of money and defence equipment costs a lot - but again we could have invested in smaller planes and done without the war-making capability that we're renewing,"
#GolrizGhahraman, 2019

Just discovered these absolutely batshit insane books by Janet Morris, a defense and psyops expert who spent her free time writing military fantasy smut that apparently sold millions of copies in the 70s and 80s. Now they are only available as print-on-demand. These original covers ... OMG WTF https://www.blackgate.com/2016/03/19/vintage-treasures-the-silistra-quartet-by-janet-morris/
Part of me starts to accept that the time for shorts will slowly come to an abrupt end.

@annaleen ...and also one allegedly (by the standards of the time, anyway) expertly researched historical novel about Hittite king Šuppiluliuma I??
Australia's shortage of air-traffic controllers is showing signs of nearing a breaking point after the country's busiest airport recorded at least four near misses in the past month. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/08/24/asia-pacific/air-safety-australia-close-calls/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #asiapacific #australia #airaccidents #airlines #aviation #travel
This entire report from the Ontario government on genAI systems is worth a read, but the review of healthcare scribe accuracy is pretty devastating, imo. This has to work for the tech to be worth anything. If the notes in the chart are wrong, the whole thing falls apart.

I've heard thousands of climate denial arguments over the last few decades. But do you know they all fall into one of 5 categories?
1. It's not real
2. It's not us
3. It's not bad
4. We can't fix it
5. You can't trust the info/experts

Popping in from a social media break to say: Reflect Orbital still totally sucks! https://www.technologyreview.com/2026/08/21/1142755/space-mirrors-night-sky/
@sundogplanets It does. So many sucky things being imposed on us.
@citizen428 Oh, I do that for a lot of feeds. Usually 90% of them I just read the headline to see if it might be interesting, and if not then I mark all as read.
But now that I think about it I should probably prune some feeds I almost never read.
@hyperreal I know how it goes. I’m a Gollum-level tab hoarder. I’m also trying to do better.
I just discovered "OpenLogi" an open source control software for pretty much all Logitech peripherals. It's available for macOS, Windows and Linux <3
@hukl if you’re on Linux there has been solaar for a while, for all the devices I have it works great
@bartreardon holidays are supposed to be fun and relaxing lol
@decryption One hopes it ends that way - need to get there first though 🙂
Major surgery is quite the forcing function.
I have to reset volunteer obligations, which I aim to keep at reduced levels even afterward.
I have to get my house in order. Beyond "guest ready," it has to be decluttered even in private spaces.
I have to document what upkeep looks like, so that I can farm it out to my friends and family for a while.
It's also forcing me to contend with: who do I want to see, and who can I count on?
I'm excited about what life will look like on the other side.
AI companies see words as interchangeable and have zero clue how to judge the “quality” of writing.

@404mediaco this is particularly bad news for scientists using AIs to improve their texts : because of precise definitions of word meaning related to the discipline, subtle word choices can end up in wrong text.
Good morning from Enem in the Adygea republic, Russia, where the 40,000 m² Ozon logistics center is wondering if war with Ukraine was a good idea.
During the night, Ukraine also attacked Ozon Warehouses in both Dagestan, in Krasnodar, and in Nevinnomyssk, Stavropol Krai.
It is coming home.
