"Practical Vim", chapter 10 :)
When pitching ORCID to busy faculty, drop the technical jargon. Instead, show them how it saves them time. ⏳💡

If you alphabetized a gear shift, would it be like:
D 1 N 2
5 4 R 3
Or like this?
5 4 R 3
D 1 N 2
@catsalad
As an old computer nerd the first choice that came to mind was ASCII order:
1

For anybody who wants to discuss tangible actions around telling our gov't they are not doing a good job on climate change (and everything else, really) we're starting a #thisIsNotFine movement.
So far we're developing stickers and postcards.

All the people who have ever told me to stop talking about politics and focus on technology, all of them had something in common.
Guess what was it.
And, yes, they were all men, but that was not my point.
*Sighs loudly*
Señor, I will be able to focus on technology when politics allow me. You are the one making everything political and forcing me to be a social warrior to fight for my right to focus on technology. That is my end goal, thanks.
We've managed to reschedule #Synthercise, the chiptune dance fitness experience - presented by me and @discontinuity - for when it cools down a bit and earlier in the morning - on Sunday at 10am in the space at #emfcamp Stage D. There's a ceilidh going on there now, how are they moving so fast?!

@zool @discontinuity it wasn't so bad after the sun went behind the trees, but I think the folks we met afterwards who went for hugs may have regretted it
Huh, interesting. Bluesky the company trademarked the name of "AT Protocol" as "primarily a defensive measure" against abuse.
Going forward, "most everyday use cases [won't] require a license".
Trying to see if there is a precedence for this and learning about the "EMAIL invention controversy".
"In 1982, [American engineer, entrepreneur, and anti-vaccine activist V. A. Shiva Ayyadurai] registered the copyright for the source code and user documentation of the FORTRAN program called EMAIL."
Yikes.

one of my little side hobbies is rescuing dead graphing calculators at thrift shops
i found this TI-83 completely dead with 25+ year old leaking batteries inside of the bay, and brought it home for $8.
after a little cleanup of the battery bay and contacts with a weak acid, it sprung back to life for the first time in decades. amazingly, the original owner's programs were still intact, thanks to the backup battery.
per every canadian math teacher's instruction, the original owner - Fraser D. - had his name engraved into the shell. 😀
this calculator is destined to go back into use as soon as i can find a local math teacher who wants it in their classroom. given that a TI-84 calculator is still $190 in canada - a truly disgusting price for a computer running a 40-year-old Zilog Z80 processor (!), a free TI-83 will sound good to some kid out there.
(whom, i hope, will spend all of their Math 10 time learning how to program TI-BASIC instead of solving polynomials)
Linus Torvalds to critics of AI coding in Linux: "Fork it. Or just walk away."
Creator says he will "very loudly ignore" those arguing for a ban on AI tools.

@arstechnica I cannot imagine he said that without more context. He said before that it's pointless to forbid certain tools, because people will use them anyway.
The review process ensures that most crap is filtered out. As long as they are capable to review the code, it should be fine.
@RinaVolpina @stage7 we went to uhhhh „Higuma“ which I would describe as Fine

Wondering if the USA will be in a major constitutional crisis this time tomorrow.
@timbray There's a 50/50 chance he will make a declaration that will put the midterms in doubt. Then there's a 50/50 chance that the Democrats in Congress will actually do anything about it. So the odds are a 1/4 chance there will be a constitutional crisis by this time tomorrow.
If only you had bought $1000 worth of stock in SpaceX on June 16, you would now have $602 left.
Then again, not believing in Elon's fantasy company means you have $1000 left.
@randahl When is it low enough to buy again? 🤑 /s
