Das Völkerrecht ist mal wieder in der Krise, wie man so hört. Kriege überall, mächtige Staaten tun was sie wollen und aus vielen Ecken erschallen Rufe, dass ja keiner mehr an das Völkerrecht glaubt. Mit anderen Worten: ist das Recht oder kann das weg?
Grund für diesen Essay ist aber nicht die allgemeine Völkerrechtsmüdigkeit, sondern konkret ein Artikel der Legal Tribune Online (LTO) vom 10. Juni 2026 mit der etwas reißerischen Schlagzeile "Umfrage unter Jurastudenten: Nur ein Bruchteil glaubt noch ans Völkerrecht", der auf Social Media immer mal wieder die Runde gemacht hat. Wenn man sich die Welt abseits des Dauerfeuers von Social Media und Brennpunktsendungen mit etwas Ruhe und Daten ansieht, sieht es zumindest im Bereich von Krieg und Frieden heutzutage nicht viel dramatischer aus, als zu anderen Hochphasen seit 1945, insbesondere zu Zeiten der Kriege in Korea (1950–1953) oder Vietnam (1965–1973 mit US-Beteiligung).

one of my little side hobbies is rescuing dead graphing calculators at thrift shops
i found this TI-83 completely dead with 25+ year old leaking batteries inside of the bay, and brought it home for $8.
after a little cleanup of the battery bay and contacts with a weak acid, it sprung back to life for the first time in decades. amazingly, the original owner's programs were still intact, thanks to the backup battery.
per every canadian math teacher's instruction, the original owner - Fraser D. - had his name engraved into the shell. 😀
this calculator is destined to go back into use as soon as i can find a local math teacher who wants it in their classroom. given that a TI-84 calculator is still $190 in canada - a truly disgusting price for a computer running a 40-year-old Zilog Z80 processor (!), a free TI-83 will sound good to some kid out there.
(whom, i hope, will spend all of their Math 10 time learning how to program TI-BASIC instead of solving polynomials)

@arstechnica I cannot imagine he said that without more context. He said before that it's pointless to forbid certain tools, because people will use them anyway.
The review process ensures that most crap is filtered out. As long as they are capable to review the code, it should be fine.
