I'm trying to take some time off this month but I have to say the constant flow of dystopian news makes this really difficult.
Can't world authoritarians and AI CEOs just take some time off too please?
@Em0nM4stodon +1
I decided to just write some userscripts to block all of it. It has no added value.
@Smidgybit my pleasure! Please ping me once you’ve published your introductory post and I’d be happy to boost it 🤗
In this week’s Club @macstories Weekly, I shared my thoughts on how a potential change to the Apple Watch bands would bring improvements that would outweigh the inconveniences

Sure.
Screen sharing is a good example, it's a problem that can be solved through a protocol extension; the main challenge is getting everyone to agree on one. There is no one at the heart of wayland who is philosophically against the idea of screen sharing.
Contrast with the idea that windows should be able to determine their size/position. This idea violates a core wayland tenet. The closest extension is ext_zones which is unlikely to ever be implemented by certain compositors.
@sarahjamielewis @dequbed I can see too many cases where windows need to be able to control their own size. One example: I'd coded a TOTP application and one of the size rules I wanted was that it's size should be an even multiple of a TOTP code panel (with allowance for the menu, toolbar and status bar). That requires the application to have final control over the window size, and is IMO a valid use case.
Am I reading this right? Since yesterday, enabling Developer Mode in ChatGPT, so you can add any custom MCP, no longer disables memories…?
@Roland meh la grosse IA de merde :(
(désoooo)
@Aznorth ha ha bon a 24h du match je m'attends pas a du travail de studio 😅😂
Grad wieder gelesen, WissenschaftlerInnen sollten bitte besser kommunizieren.
Aber srsly, das Problem ist woanders.
Auf ner anderen Plattform wird grad n Arzt dafür angegangen, dass er sagt, Sars-Cov-2 sei n Atemwegsvirus. Was halt schlicht stimmt.
🙄

Interviewer:
"What if Mr. #Netanyahu makes a conflict unavoidable?"
#MarkRutte:
"Yeah, let me not speculate on that because in the end, let's not forget what happened on the 7th of October er 2023, this terrible attack by Hamas on Israel. So, it started not with Israel, but of obviously, no, no, let, let me not er speculate on what could happen in the next steps."
Mark on Russia: “📣 ARTICLE 5 an attack against one ally is considered an attack against all allies❗️”
Tolkien: Is any of this worth it? Will anyone even read this a generation or two from now?
time traveller: Oh, your books become enduring successes and cultural touchstones. People even name companies after lore from the books.
Tolkien: Imagine that! A company named Frodo!
time traveller: Ehh…
Tolkien: Strider Industries!
time traveller: That's not exactly…
Tolkien: Bombadil Incorporated!
time traveller: Okay, so here's the thing…

I finally added an oft-requested feature to https://arewedecentralizedyet.online/ , my project to track statistics for the #fediverse and other Internet infrastructure. it now includes history for the Shannon Index, showing how decentralization has evolved over the time I've been collecting data.

Facial recognition scanners are turning up at airports, stadiums, and even Disneyland's gates. Most offer an opt-out, but few make it obvious. Before your next visit, check the venue's policy and look for the opt-out lane.

An excellent piece from Vogue about Meta's continuing attempt to make their "smart glasses" fashionable and cool that makes all of the right points about the ways in which normalizing ubiquitous surveillance creates a world we don't want to live in.

I guess Teen Vogue has proven a good influence on Vogue.
> I seem to recall claims that multi-paradigm is meant to be part of the philosophy of Wayland, but usually only hear of it as a desktop technology.
These two points are closely related. Wayland was designed with multi-paradigm in mind and in doing so ensured that many desktop conventions couldn't be ported to it (or could be but with great debate and tribulation)
Resulting in much discourse regarding wayland on the desktop (and very little about e.g. it's wide in-vehicle use)
@sarahjamielewis @geraldew I think that not being able to port many desktop conventions to it inherently breaks the whole multi-paradigm idea because it makes it impossible to cleanly implement at least one commonly-used paradigm. I wish they'd've just stuck to making a local-rendering-only replacement for X11 and separated the rest out.
