@tahnok I feel like "hosting company simulator" would do numbers on Steam
Context, for those confused (like me):
«If that name doesn’t mean anything to you, here is what it should mean. Vibber took over as lead developer of MediaWiki, the platform that runs Wikipedia, in early 2003. She was the first full-time employee the Wikimedia Foundation ever hired, and its first Chief Technical Officer. For more than twenty years she was the engineer you called when something deep in the code was broken.»

You do not, in fact, fire your organization's Brooke Vibber
You especially do not fire a Brooke Vibber because of bullshit union busting reasons
@andypiper Raise a complaint with their ADR if you can. Also your neighbor is entitled to compensation - £8 per day according to the code of practice.
@tony thanks - will also write to our MP
@mos_8502 this is the hard part for us too. People have to know and care about the work. How to accomplish that without shilling constantly?
Forgot I made some “glamour” pics as well
@thomasfuchs I love popup book technology. It’s basically sorcery to get it all to sit flat then unfold and expand.

We had SO MUCH FUN doing our live taping in Brooklyn, and now you all can listen in, too, to me and @alex -- I mean Al Sloppy Wood doing ridicule as praxis together with a wonderful live audience.
J'achète un jeu tous les 3 ans.
Le dernier, j'ai jamais pu le faire marcher sur GOG.
Leur service client m'a dit "arf, les devs sont probablement dessus, déso pas déso".
Jamais eu de solution.
Jamais joué.

The visualizations are great, but Hans Rosling's initial point about preconceived notions is most on point regarding all the 'explanations' that are out there about declining fertility rates. From the roles and choices of women to the changing economic value of children, cell phones, endocrine disruptors, declining religiosity, the rise of the manosphere, climate change, and many others, people are flogging their personal bugbears as the answer.
@rdnielsen @eliasp @ourworldindata
Yes, absolutely
But reality is what stays if you stop believing 😬
@jesuislibre

UDP is what's used for anything requiring latency sensitivity in practice. So, gaming, VoIP, video confs, remote control etc. (specifically often RTP built on UDP).
A notable mistake was Minecraft using TCP for PvP
@dlakelan unfortunately i am a hardcore IP secessionist https://circumstances.run/@hipsterelectron/116646870622629450 i also think the user should be specifying the path their packets should travel through. the network should not be opaque and addresses should always be logical
🚨 New post alert 📝
A deep dive into #WSocial with some fascinating findings: candid statements about their motives, a Greta Thunberg connection, potential AI plans (!!!)
Why write about it again? I still had so many questions after publishing my first article.
I spent 3 weeks watching every interview I could find and connecting the dots.
I hope you'll enjoy this piece:

@_elena i spend some time in a videocall with one of their people and you confirm quite a lot of my suspicions. Great research!

Also Germans: "I hope you have the wrist of a body builder because we don't do dress watches smaller than 41mm"
@halcy not to get all Marxist, but one thing Old Beardo recognized was that capitalists don't stop trying to grow their wealth even when it has ballooned far past their ability to enjoy it.
One reason Marx identified was that wealth in corporate stock is not like owning a plot of land or a pile of gold. The stock is only valuable if the corporation is growing relative to competitors. If not, the stock collapses and the wealth dissipates.
@halcy another reason is that once you have a big fortune, you become the target for others. They want wealth; you have wealth. One way to get wealth is to take it from you. One way to prevent that is to keep taking from others.
