I'm stalled https://dustycloud.org/tmp/org_diet_results.html
But it's been hard to keep my diet on track with things going on lately. But those have largely cleared up. Determined to turn it around though. I think I can do better than I have been lately.
I badly want to cross under 240 soon. I can do it. Just gotta be serious about things.
(I don't need any advice, encouragement is welcome though)
@StarkRG @quixoticgeek Back in WW1 in the UK lots of men's football teams were disbanded as the men went to war. Meanwhile women were coming to work in factories and started forming teams. And since people still wanted to go to watch football, they were getting big crowds. And even after the war ended and men's teams started up again, the women still drew big crowds. This made the men nervous and in 1921 women's teams were banned from FA affiliate grounds. This only changed in the 1970s.
Went to The Range to buy a mirror and some lampshades and in amongst all the Live Laugh Love shite and weirdly glittery decor “art” I found this thing of my favourite William Morris print. So that’s a win.
@astronomerritt
I recommend the William Morris museum in Walthamstow if you haven't been already! :)
@simon_brooke I think that's entirely missing the scale and perspective. If we have no civil aviation, then that means we're all basically stuck on the continents we're on. That's not gonna fly as an idea. There is no alternative to flying from Amsterdam to New York. And remember. Aviation is 2% of global emissions. Steel is 6%. Cement is 8%. Surface transport 17%. Buildings are 25%. There's a lot more to be gained by reducing those.
@quixoticgeek Well, it's don't fly, or die. If we, as a global population, prefer to die, then by all means keep flying.
But when 10% of the population, by flying, dooms the whole population to dying, expect serious trouble.

Yesterday I replied to a toot someone posted. Their toot was boggling at how trans women were excluded from the challenging physical sport that is darts. My reply pointed out that chess is also gender segregated, at least at lower levels.
Lots of people replied to me asking why. And the reply is simple.
Men don't like being beaten by a girl. Chess is gender segregated to protect fragile men.
@quixoticgeek That's historically been the case for many sports that are segregated. Marathons? Not segregated until a woman placed. Cycling? I'm pretty sure women were someone's straight up banned from cycling because men were worried it would make them infertile and/or would be too pleasured by riding over cobblestones (a concern, I've been told, had valid basis, wrong though the conclusion might have been).

I hear critical positions towards so-called «artificial intelligence» nowadays framed more and more as «rejectionism», and this is especially formulated as a critique of the left. The argument often goes something like this: Rather than seeing the potentials of AI, the left merely rejects it. «Rejectionism» thus is framed as an unwillingness to engage with the technology. But nothing could be further from the truth. Left-wing critique of AI, which takes many forms, is based on an empirical assessment of the impact and implications of the dominant model of AI development.

We somehow went from "script kiddies are bad" to giving any random office worker the power to launch hundreds of programs that will hammer unknown servers across the web to make mediocre power point presentations.
Not to mention the massive usage spikes that are now hitting public software and data repositories.
What a world.
