In a globalized world where capital can move freely at the speed of fiber optic cable but labor is stuck in open-air prisons called countries, data centers will end up being mostly built in the third-world countries, where the citizens can't really refuse meaningfully.

RE: https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/@stefano/116578781744142408
In my view, the modern world has produced a serious problem: half-knowledge. In this context, there is no doubt that the AI-trained intern is deemed 'more right' than the person with experience.
I have always appreciated the spirit of change in young people - I myself have been a proponent of change - but this confidence rooted in a profound ignorance of the subject matter worries me. I see it on social media, where everyone is an expert on every topic, and I see it in the professional world. Young or not.
@stefano “Intelligent-looking parrots” is the skill LLM gave to humans to cover their lack of basic knowledge. I already met some of these usually over-confident yet somehow nice youngsters, missing the roots of computer science and operational skills, endlessly trying to compensate with “LLM distilled” knowledge. I will be rude, not with them only but with us the gifted “we built the internet” generation : we let the LLM take other the work of beginners. (« We » being CEO, CTO and other tech giants lobbying ). Young people have no choice but to fight to exist in organisations were there is no place for them anymore. I had colleagues trying to play the « I am skilled » piece while 98% dependant on ChatGPT (not only for coding but for summarizing docs). Some trying to pretend, some acting in the open. Then you are either: amused by what they say (“little one, hard your endless fall will be” — yoda style), or you are in a rescue mission to compensate (“I’ll recode your app when you resign we are just wasting time together”/(politely talking about “reviewing” first before erasing all of it) ). 1/n
