@dangillmor being serious though, the z fold 8 looks exactly like the leaks of the new Apple phone. And they’re supplying the panels so they know the dimensions of Apple’s . Samsung may have rushed theirs out first but it’s not much of a stretch to think they released this as a direct response to Apple.
But that depends on getting enough juice into it to turn it on, which might take all day!
It's on! It wasn't dead dead, just standby dead.
It's still running AOSP though, and I don't have the dongle to flash things.
But Sundog has one at the office, so I'll borrow it tomorrow.
I was thrilled to see that the doors are back on the free food pantry. I was waiting for the rain to pass before I restocked the shelves. I am so happy to be able to leave food without worrying about the weather.
There is a shop across the street that sells local frozen beef. l was able to use a gift certificate given to me for my birthday to buy eight one pound packages of ground beef. I sat at the picnic table and along came a family with five kids. They were excited to see food on the shelves but even more excited to take home the ground beef.
The kids were most in awe that there was spicy ramen.
Our little town is a good place to be.
There is a correct solution to the trolley problem.
It is this: you design the system with positive train control. You make it so the trolley cannot enter a section where there are people, and you make it so the trolley can be stopped quickly if something goes wrong.
I've been told that this is cheating, a cop-out, or avoiding the "interesting" aspects of the question. I don't think it is. Framing the world as a series of individual can't-win situations and lose-lose decisions _is_ the problem.
Don't do that.
Since I can’t play guitar anymore (because fibro), does anyone in Wellington have a smol keyboard or a flute or something I could borrow/have so I can learn that instead?

THEY FUCKING RIPPED OFF THE ZIP FILE FORMAT
Why not use ZIP or some other standard file format?
This question was given a fair amount of consideration. Ultimately, we decided to go with a custom file format because using
libjarwould have required a fair bit of hacking.
that's why you don't use "libjar", which is for java programs, but the rust zip crate that I FUCKING BUILT
Writing custom code was a simpler option, and it resulted in less code (mar_read.c is less than 300 lines of code).
that's so much more than the examples in https://docs.rs/zip
Moreover, the update system does not need a standard file format.
yeah, it needs a bullshit one
@hipsterelectron it worked for Quake2 let them cook??

@misty second hand refurb is always a good option! it’s so much cheaper especially if you can tolerate it coming pre-scuffed (I end up banging my phone around a bunch anyway so shrug)
@hailey Yeah, good point! I really should be looking at that anyway instead of defaulting to buying new.
Iran said it hit U.S. military bases in the Middle East this week to avenge a wedding attack it blamed on Washington even as U.S. Vice President JD Vance said the strike was being investigated. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/09/04/world/politics/iran-us-wedding-strike/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #worldnews #politics #iran #us #middleeast #donaldtrump #jdvance #ayatollahalikhamenei #straitofhormuz #benjaminnetanyahu
I'm amazed by the creativity of Telegram spammers.
Recently, Telegram added this feature for bots, intended for one-off AI invocations, where you can mention a bot in a message, and the bot gets to reply to you in the same chat despite not being its member. A few days ago I started seeing a new type of spam, an account would mention a bot among some gibberish words, and the bot would send the actual spam message.
Why don't these people use their ingenuity for something good instead?
Already made a small update to my anti-spam bot to hopefully defeat these.
To emphasize the point he sent that last email three times from different accounts.
Now he says he's going to "ask my colleagues what they think about my [presumably abhorent] behavior". He wonders how I got tenure (me too!).

okay, so what *is* the opposite of a lobster? I'm gonna say a Newfoundland dog. Though I've also seen rice pudding and jealousy suggested as answers.

@WizardOfDocs
Okay, so, this is the kind of no-perfect-answer question I just adore, so even though I’m not watching the JLtG videos Imma answer.
Opposite of lobster as a food item: I woudl go with a jalapeno pepper. Instead of subtle umami softness inside a crunchy shell, it’s hot & spicy & soft outside around crunchy seeds.
For lobster the animal: I like Newfie too, but I think a chinchilla is even more opposite, being maximally fluffy and soft but also so very harmless.

anyway the .sig files they provided are not valid signature data. i have no clue what they are
but more importantlly i have no way to check their fucking .asc signature because I CAN'T FUCKING FIND THEIR PUBLIC KEY ANYWHERE ON THEIR ENTIRE FUCKING WEBSITE
