Thousands rally in Stockholm over climate crisis weeks ahead of general election
The protest comes as experts in Sweden have warned that the government's climate policy jeopardises the country's emissions-cutting goals to reduce CO₂ emissions from transport by 70 percent by 2030 and to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045.
More than 10,000 people marched in Stockholm, the Swedish capital, on Sunday in a protest against human-made climate change, weeks ahead of a 13 September general election where the issue is top among Swedish voters' concerns
How Much of the Internet Is Written With AI?

To explore this question, we used the Common Crawl web archive to collect almost half a million English-language webpages from the past five years – starting a couple of years before the release of ChatGPT. We then ran the text of those pages through an AI detection tool called Open Pangram to see how many of them were likely written or substantially edited by AI.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the gulf between people who think LLMs can cut 90% of the cost of software development or whatever and people who think that’s a pile of catastrophes balanced on top of a nonsense wish.
I think a lot of that chasm boils down to the fact that software is already •terrible•, and people have very different feelings about that. I don't just mean “Liquid Glass is ugly” terrible; I mean “it’s broken and insecure and unreliable and just doesn't flipping WORK” terrible, like Arbiter Sports.
We are right now in a war between people who think software should treat humans humanely and people who are perfectly willing to offload their development costs onto captive users in the form of wasted time, anger, anxiety, and even more severe forms of personal harm. That war was raging well before LLMs entered the picture, but LLMs drove it to fever pitch. I’m extremely skeptical of the idea that LLMs make any significant positive contribution to the long-term speed or cost of writing •good• software, but they clearly have the potential to lower the floor for •bad• software to unheard-of levels at unheard-of speeds. How you feel about that fact probably predicts a lot about how you feel about the “LLMs can 10x software dev!” hype.

My store has a 4.7 rating on google maps, the same as the Musée du Louvre in Paris. They are equally good
My eyes have been struggling with reading anything light on dark again lately so here's a gentle reminder for anybody who needs to hear it that a lack of light mode is an accessibility issue too

@piepants sometimes AI sucks all the oxygen out of the room
@decryption @piepants I believe that’s the point
Sometimes I visit BlueSky and... it's not that folk on there are bad in any profound way, but I always leave the place with a sort of unquantifiable misanthropy. Something about the place just makes me want to escape to the wilds. I don't know whether it's the omnipresent Americanism or the fact that all posts take the form of a critique on a critique on a critique, but the atmosphere is just crushingly claustrophobic. It seems like everybody is desperate to convince themselves that they're part of some intellectual priesthood. Just exhausting stuff.

I think today's sizzle might be a rare, AI/LLM free issue??
@decryption THANK FUCK FOR THAT!

@cjmoorehead @PaulBusch @pluralistic I have zero background on these topics, but my intuition is that if it was easy to create and distribute such jailbreaking software it would already abound.
@Steve_Lindsay @cjmoorehead @PaulBusch they are routinely invented, by teenagers no less, but because they are a felony (also why they are primarily released by teenagers), they immediately disappear.
