Why I (still) love Linux
https://it-notes.dragas.net/2025/11/24/why-i-still-love-linux/
It was probably late 1996 when a guy showed me his Red Hat Linux system. I was intrigued and in a few months I saw an ad to buy it for $50 and the fun began. Many years later Ubuntu came out and I felt their concern to make it possible for folks to use it was the turning point for the Desktop. That was when my mom wanted it. She's 96 now and hasn't touched Windows in 17 years or more. She has stuck with Ubuntu.
Until June, the Japanese government didn't require doctors to notify patients that they had dense breast tissue — a potential early warning sign of cancer. Even with the policy change, advocates say more can be done. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2026/08/22/lifestyle/breast-cancer-screening-change-tissue-density-health/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #life #lifestyle #health #cancer #breastcancer #women039sissues #nationalhealthcare
@alexpsmith Tummy ache everytime I eat something. Unfortunately not sure which food is the trigger
@farah Seriously, it could be anything from hormones to fibroids to something more serious. There might not be a specific food trigger.
@pattykimura @Wallflower @Kierkegaanks I just edited it to use more "we"s so people won’t be concerned. BabyK is definitely going with me!
@Alice @pattykimura @Kierkegaanks

Ah, yes, the section for books about imaginary things
It's been a tough few years for MacStories.
An explanation of why we resumed posting on X, and what comes next:
@viticci thanks for this — I really appreciate the time and care that went into it

@gloriouscow little yellow puddle when capacitors leak

One of my proudest moments was driving a steam train and it started raining so we slipped and stalled going uphill on wet rails. Got it going again and everyone cheered. Now I realise it sounds like one of those "and everyone clapped" stories and feel like a twat when I tell it.
per @acarsdrama chatter, lots of planes holding inbound for manchester, which has closed for reasons unknown - to pass the time pilots have started a nascar race
