In my opinion, the MOST important thing you can do for your #privacy is get over your aprehension of being "that weirdo" or being "difficult". Not having "the app" is "abnormal". Refusing to use a platform because of a privacy hazard is "being diffiicult".
Avoiding facial or plate recognition is "paranoid".
The first thing you need to do is get the fuck over that. Be difficult, be a weirdo, be abnormal. What's actually fucking weird is being ok with constantly being tracked and data harvested!
Please, progressive politicians: if you get called out for your own controversial statements or those of your associates, and those statements are *right*, stand behind them. The intifada is global, ICE should be abolished, and Thanksgiving is a colonizer holiday. You already lost them; don't lose us, too.
kinda? they should say what they think is right and not change that depending on the audience or primary vs general etc. but without a better media environment and reforms like ending gerrymandering and final five ranked choice voting and finding a way to get everyone eligible to vote, doing so means my people are going to lose. just keeping us probably doesn't mean much at the governmental level today. so they play a different game to prevent the worst outcomes. it all sucks.

There was a sense in the Inkscape project that it should be the developer team that decided what the AI policy should be.
I flatty rejected this.
Because most of the consequences for the project, for our users and for the world have absolutely nothing to do with developing software. It's reputation, risk, relationships and community standards and morality.
The last thing I wanted was important decisions to be pre-narrowed to questions of technical usefulness.

But how does one convince them to do such a thing? The option they just voted for specifically requires no labeling, and unless I'm mistaken it was the only available option that doesn't require labeling.
@argv_minus_one @michel_slm I don't really know. If it were in my power, I'd have a repository for software where the developers proactively report that they did not use AI, a repository for ones that report that they did, and one for those who don't specify.
But, that might get out of hand.
Maybe just make it a requirement that developers affirm that they did not use AI to be in the "free" repository, and lump everything else in "non-free."

Like, I can't even eat the food, but, the fundamental *nature* of a barbecue - 'let's get all the people we get along with together in a place with some fire and make a bunch of food' - is kind of a core human activity, that seem to be near universal across culture and time. It is arguably one of the most fundamentally enjoyable human experiences, unless you hate the people you're there with.
