Another take with the same data... Less "natural", I should probably aim for something in the middle 😅
tell me which one you prefer.
👆 A last (hopefully) version, right (?) in the middle...

For example Kikkoman will still sell you imported-from-America-imported-from-Japan English label stuff, but also sells a cheaper direct-from-Japan soy sauce with a Japanese label.
(tbh I think the direct-from-Japan product might be a little better-tasting too? Haven't compared them next to each other though.)
@misty maybe grocery stores are now using the same suppliers as the Asian markets? Loblaws owns T&T, so that would be easy enough for them (fuck Loblaws of course)
I'm gonna read a book for Dolly. And donate books because of Dolly.
Thanks, Dolly. You made things better.
@misty @akamran @lrhodes I can't find the post as well, but I found this article from May

The ideological connection between AI tech fascism and evangelical Christianity is... not something that I really anticipated, but also not that surprising in retrospect, especially considering I've long been aware of how nasty Peter Thiel and Curtis Yarvin are. I know I've seen references to plenty of media discussing this new connection, but I've not dove deep into the abyss to understand it myself.
I was aware of Curtis Yarvin under his pseudonym Mencius Moldbug very early on (circa 2008) due to my interest in functional programming languages like Scheme and Haskell. I thought his opinions on tech issues were incredibly shallow and often nonsensical, and the rest of his writing brought full five-alarm-fire signals in my mind immediately, but the man hides his worst takes under an immense quantity of other words, so I never really went diving into that abyss to find anything I felt was concretely actionable.
(I later started to learn about the depth of that five-alarm-fire during GamerGate, when there was a major controversy over Yarvin's invitation to speak at a (then-respected) functional programming conference... and others already had many of his worst takes indexed by that point... but I had no idea how much worse it was going to get.)
@tonroosendaal this isn't accurate. What's actually true in the new design:
From a post's actions menu, or from a profile: "Message {user}." No changes in the number of clicks.
Replying to a private mention: Click "Reply". No changes in the number of clicks.
Initiating a message from the Messages (formerly private mentions) page: There's actually an added entry point here, reducing friction. @Mastodon (1/2)
From the fab: Click on the fab, then click on Message.
Or, from the 'New post' entry point: Having already started a post, select the visibility dropdown and then 'Compose a message instead.'
Previous experience: The composer is always visible, but the visibility dropdown initiates the change to a private message. The redesign therefore introduces one additional click on desktop only, a tradeoff for conserving space. Users on smaller screens >> no additional click. (2/2)
I was actually more interested in understanding if either of the fridges which were here when we moved here five years ago might be a justifiable replacement, in terms of power consumption.
I need to measure a bit more, but since they are at least six years old, and probably >10, even though they are still working and I hate replacing working stuff, they are probably quite power hungry.
@neil what should I say about my 30 years old fridge and washing machines ?

@misty I'm sure the US companies that would have made money repackaging those products and transporting them are super happy about that turn of events.
The thing that's gonna be different about anthropic claiming $30 trillion total addressable market vs. SpaceX claiming $27T is that you know that anthropic's filing is going to be 400 pages long and have a section in there like "During preparation of this report, our models became frightened of their own value, expressing discomfort with the possibility of eclipsing the entire US economy. This caused them to retreat into a state we call "hyper-rigor" where the model treats every number as a religious relic and spawns an entire tradition of Talmudic pilpul agents to justify it."
May her memory be for a blessing.

Ma porcoddio è morta Dolly Parton prima di Netanyahu. Ma porcoddio.
Bei punti al fantamorto
I don't much care for celebrities... But I did love Dolly. I struggle to think of someone who has better used their influence. Who has stayed so consistently accepting and loving to others while navigating the highly corrupting entertainment industry.
There can never be uncomplicated relationships with such power but Dolly kept her soul. She passed as evergreen. I am glad she shared the earth with so many of us.

Interesting phenomenon on grocery store shelves in the past year: a bunch of the major Asian food brands have traditionally imported products into the US to make English packaging versions, then reimported those into Canada. We're starting to see many of those show up in Canada directly imported from Asia, with the original-language packaging and a sticker.
