I get that there are people for whom their primary motivation is stopping X. That's fine; somebody has to do that job. For me, my number one goal is growing the Fediverse and retaining people on the Fediverse.
@evan The worst approach is "I leave X and join fediverse, to harm Musk"
I think it's the wrong approach; want me to talk explicitly? I know lots of folks looking for porn on X; publicly available sex related material. And there is a lot - at least until a while ago; I'm trusting people I know and told me, I had other interests. And here, most instances (at least the public ones) prohibit nsfw contents. No idea on mastodon.social, or the biggest. But at least MastodonUno and poliversity, the one I'm in, don't accept adult-only materials and they have their own reason not to.
I agree with "grow fediverse" rather than "focus on inducing others to leave X", but the question is: what do we want from this growth? If it really grows, we should accept some heavy risks.
@eramdam fwiw you can also do --all in one go instead of going through every domain haha https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/tootctl/#:~:text=the%20remote%20account.-,%2D%2Dall,-Can%20be%20provided

@sebsauvage
je trouve ça très drôle
ok so angle bisection corresponds to the ring operation. there's also a very clear higher-dimensional analogy for pythagorean triples and it's just the same thing as the "euclidean" norm?????
i'm reading about the monster group now https://sci-hub.st/10.1038/scientificamerican0680-20 afaict it's another little fairytale the princeton mathematicians are telling themselves
My biggest fear about become a zombie, isn't the eating of other peoples brains. it's all of the walking.
I mean... c'mon... let me at least catch a bus.
@Anomnomnomaly I just weary about liars who will hide their zombie bites

Meat proxy (noun): “A person who forwards AI-generated text, code, or other output without reading, understanding, or validating it. The person acts only as a relay between the AI system and the intended recipient.” https://sfisms.org/meat-proxy
@scottmichaud Probably a wiser choice.
@thomaswilburn Actually, I'm curious what's the most silent hills you can watch per hour. Probably a nature demo video.
Wonderful set of photos of this absolute doll. 💕 From my collection, no date/info.

@thomasfuchs Cool. Bose RoomMates. Had some on the IIgs, and they were swapped between the IIgs and the external CDROM depending on where the audio came from :)
sync 'finished' and i did a clear of remote media but im still missing a bunch of avatars so im just bruteforcing by doing `accounts refresh` on all the domains i follow lmao

Delighted to have received first place in the @evoke Alternative Platforms compo and lots of lovely audience feedback for my TIC-80 demo, "The one that got away"!
Watch online: https://tic80.com/play?cart=4808
It's inspired by a real occurrence at the inaugural Evoke drone show last year, which I was reminded of a month or so back via @Violet 's summer 2025 travel thread: https://chitter.xyz/@travelracc/116904257318823589 . It came together mostly within the last week (with special appreciation to @zool for enduring my last-minute party-coding-and-composing efforts...)

This is a Ruckers mother-and-child virginal—a 17th-century keyboard instrument with a second, smaller instrument built into it, tuned an octave higher. The “child” could be pulled out to play duets or set on top of the “mother” to add a jangly, buzzing color to the main sound—a Renaissance-era layering trick, centuries before mixing desks. Antwerp instrument makers were doing this in the 1600s.

@globalmuseum wow, that’s pretty great!
Apparently we've just seen the first murders committed by an autonomous AI-driven weapon.
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/24/world/europe/russia-drones-autonomous-ai-kill-ukraine-war.html
In this case the weapon was a drone, it was Russian, and the victims were Ukrainian civilians. We're bound to see endless variations on this theme, starting now.
@petersuber to correct you, ukraine have been using AI weapons for at least 3 months. There is also a few reports of ai swarms being deployed in a testing capacity last year.
