Meat proxy (noun): “A person who forwards AI-generated text, code, or other output without reading, understanding, or validating it. The person acts only as a relay between the AI system and the intended recipient.” https://sfisms.org/meat-proxy

I'm delighted to see beavers making themselves at home.
"Farmers have traditionally opposed beaver reintroduction in the UK over fears their dams could flood fields and damage crops. But during the heatwave, one farmer told the Guardian that his best asset has been a family of beavers who have built a reservoir on his land that contains 3m litres of water."

@axbom jag försökte göra ett på nynorsk pga det jag hittade var så dumt, det är svårt — bra jobbat!
- we refer to a system of perpendicular axes and finite-degree vectors as a "cartesian" coordinate system for some reason, yet we instantly defer to a "euclidean" metric or "norm".
couldn't it have made sense to euclid to analogize prime subgroup ideals to the modern conception of perpendicular basis vectors? just like in flatland, all you really need to do to add 1 more line that only intersects with the existing basis at the point "1". the euclidean norm of a unit vector of any dimension n >= 1 is always = 1
we are taught the "euclidean" norm in terms of a square root. but pythagorus almost definitely wasn't thinking that way, not if he indeed made sure hippasus got his shit rocked for even daring to propose the existence of an irrational number.
i would assume the way a perpendicular basis in Rn (or even just Qn. in either case, we assume R2 for the moment) uniquely defines not just one, but two versions of transformationally-equivalent right triangles, each of which share one edge with an existing basis element (e.g. x or y), and another edge with the newly created shared vector that points in the direction the bases are going together.
i would suspect they'd employ the pythogorean identity there, where
x2 + y2 = z2.
x2 + y2 - z2 = 0 2 copies of right triangle created sharing norm line
THIS ALSO HOLDS FOR ALL HIGHER DIMENSIONS!!
in 3D:
- x2 + y2 + z2 - w2 = 0 4 copies of pyramid/triangular prism sharing/rotating around the norm line
and furthermore!
note where we might find an actually useful opportunity for cardano's otherwise-useless distinction between order and cardinality, as the pohlig-hellman algorithm calculates discrete logs (a serial process) over each subgroup—each subgroup can be computed in parallel, but the runtime will always be dominated by the order of the largest subgroup, and we can achieve asymptotic runtime and memory safety at the same time!
per hellman: https://www-ee.stanford.edu/~hellman/publications/28.pdf
The lemma shows that, neglecting logarithmic factors, the time-memory product can be held constant (since
p^r p_i^{1-r} = p_i) as we go between the extremes of a table lookup and an exhaustive trial-and-error search.
and this piece advocates for q = 2p + 1 as well!

Making people laugh is a good skill no doubt, but deep down I don’t want to be that person
@farah I find that the people who _don't_ want to be that person are that person, effortlessly. It's the people who try to be funny that end up flopping on their face.
An essential event for conservators?
Handle With Care: New Approaches to Conservation.
14 October 2026.
Conservators work across all types of museum collections, from textiles and paintings to coins and natural sciences. Often (but not always) working behind the scenes, this key part of the workforce ensures that collections are maintained for public enjoyment and learning

@FediTips I'm curious, is there some element of this that is client dependent? I use tusky on mobile, but the web client on desktop, and have yet to ever really see any kind of display regarding this information on the mobile app.
It should always work on the web client if your server is running 4.5.0 or higher.
It should work on Tusky too (although there may be an intermittent bug: https://codeberg.org/tusky/Tusky/issues/5176), I wonder if it is fetching them but not notifying the user about it like the web client does?
@AnarchoNinaWrites @PaulDitz I just tried sending you some money via Ko-Fi and as I suspected it thinks all money coming from Canada must be terrorist funding or some such and just generically fails. I've encountered this before when trying to support other folk. Would you be comfortable privately sharing your PayPal email address for me to send it directly from my PayPal account to yours?

Han ble rasende da jeg skrev om "radikaliseringen av Minerva" der, for halvannet års rid siden. Men jeg hadde jo rett. Nå er jeg kasta ut, så jeg slipper å se så mye til ham.
I cannot rest until some "big" accounts, publicatons, groups et al tag #NHAMFest26 or link https://fest.nham.co.uk , or quote or boost some posts about this distributed online festival streaming parade of talented artists, makers and communicators.
Many speak a lot about wanting more positivity, human art, discovery and community building in the feed and world.
Well HERE it is and here we are. Lend a voice so we don't lose ours. Support indie artists doing things on platforms of more agency!
I vaguely recall that when AOC barely, briefly stumbled in a way less problematic fashion about a question on Taiwan... the media made a huge story about it for weeks, with the GOP egging it on. Now it's "why ask an elected official about Taiwan, that's silly."

I know everyone including me is eager for Dune 3, but I kinda wanna see the prequel to Dune 1 which includes the Butlerian Jihad, the fight against AI. It resulted in this unbreakable commandment: "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind." dune.fandom.com/wiki/Butleri...
Roborock Q7 M5 review: A capable budget robot vacuum that nails the fundamentals https://zdnet.com/home-and-office/kitchen-household/roborock-q7-m5-review/#ftag=COS-05-10aaa0j via @ZDNet & @sjvn
It's a strong value robot vacuum for households that want reliable mapping and an auto-empty dock without flagship pricing.
@sjvn 2 questions:
1. Does it avoid falling down stairs that have no barrier at the top?
2. Does it keep the floor map on-premises or does it give someone a map of your house?
