Ziemlich daneben ist es, die Hetzjagd der AfD "medial" zu nennen.
@julieofthespirits yea that's absolutely a shitty thing to do. "They do it" is not the defense you are presenting it as either. Slurs dehumanize the people you use them on, and normalizes hate, "it's ok to direct abuse at this group of people because they're bad". Are christians in general wrong-headed, ignorant, and overall cause great damage to humanity? yes. Is insisting on using insulting names for them dehumanizing and wrong? Also yes.
@kevingranade @julieofthespirits you seem an exhausting concern troll
@jonny I assume CJS stands for Crufty Java Shit and ESM stands for Enterprise-class State Machines but eh
@ricci this one is even more awesome. look at the 25 'slices' sub-prs linked from it.
Thistledown.
A light rain fell as I walked through some fields near my home and I began to notice tiny, jewel-like droplets were gathering on the thistledown still clinging to the plants.
I photographed them with my constant companion, the TG-7, and, when it came to processing the RAW files, I decided not to use any noise reduction as I really liked the organic, film grain-like look of the noise created by the tiny sensor in the low light.

I mean Trump doesn't have to be working for Putin to want to destroy the United States. And I do happen to know Trump works, at least in part, for Peter Thiel and a bunch of guys who like Trump, are in the Epstein files and lo and behold I got Thiel, talking with Epstein in Epstein's emails about destroying Western nation states to both hoover up all the gold inside and also establish their own techno-fascist fiefdoms on the ashes of the world they'll burn. So, you know, maybe less Joe McCarthy?
Like, I really literally got a bunch of rich billionaires out here saying "we totally bought the government and we're gonna turn your life to fucking hell you uppity peasants" and then that is literally happening, and people are still trying sell me a 10 year old Ian Flemming novel about a piss tape and Putin puppetting Trump for the glory of mother Russia. It's just really fucking stale mate...

I've seen this pointed out in an internal discussion and it's absolutely fascinating: it seems that the output of Anthropic's LLMs is becoming increasingly verbose and convoluted the larger the model gets. This has gotten to the point that it's becoming grating to users.
We've seen a huge amount of ways in which LLMs can fail, but "the computer sounds like a obnoxious toxic co-worker" is a brand new one.

I also finds fascinating the way it's framed by users in that GitHub issue. "It's anwsers are hard to parse", "it's argumentative", "it's hard to understand its answers", etc...
People: this is a machine. It does not understand nor does it convey meaning. It does not know things and it cannot answer questions. Your brain is trying to put meaning where there is none. You're reading the statistical output of a very large matrix multiplication and assuming it makes sense. It does not. By design.
We've been getting a lot of questions about how the Internet Archive digitizes books.
The short answer: page by page, by hand.
You may remember our viral 2021 video of Eliza Zhang scanning a book. That's still how we do it.
Meet Eliza, and learn how we scan books: https://blog.archive.org/2021/02/09/meet-eliza-zhang-book-scanner-and-viral-video-star/
@internetarchive They should put a good Stephen King next to the scanner. I was told they're good page turner !
@David “and what about those folks we had around to help us do stuff who, y’know, didn’t need to be paid”
@tintinaujapon To MAGA's defense, that specific nostalgia predates them by more than a Century among most White Americans, I'm afraid.
Wednesday is Akira day
@selzero Wednesday is a good day.
@pluralistic Reimerdes meant that Sony can't be a defense to a 1201 trafficking claim. Ok, but that is one class of device. Look at SCOTUS applying Sony in Grokster 2005. Overruled precedents do not get applied. Chamberlain v. Skylink then stuffed the infringement back into 1201 and MDY rejected it. I'm not a lawyer but I can see the circuit split.
Macrovision postdates the 1984 opinion by a year and a half. Studios lost in court and shipped format control immediately. In 1998 1201(k) mandated Macrovision's automatic gain control technology in every VHS recorder sold, without naming the company. It even lists Beta format. The statute you call a disinvention was what codified the 1985 strategy, down to regulating the Betamax itself: Betamax cannot be the foundation of everything since, when we see plainly how 1998 overruled it.
Just to be clear: I was at EFF when we argued Grokster. I worked on the case with Fred, who argued it on appeal, and helped strategize our SCOTUS appeal.
On Macrovision, none of that is wrong, but it has nothing to do with the point I'm arguing. It's immaterial.

@DaveWhittle I read the article.
1st paragraph: yes
In one way or another, I have been working on XOScript since 1993,
and yet, it's still an underdog in the world of programming languages.
But let me explain the perspective of XOScript in the modern world.
It all comes down to a very straight forward idea: a programming language
simple enough to fit into your head, as a whole.
