Sento caldo, mi dico "strano, vediamo a che temperatura siamo", vedo 34°, vedo che venerdì se ne stimano 38°, "ah ok, un'altra ondata di calore" 🫸🪨
You could also point out that all the public money we spend on these white elephant missiles goes straight offshore. In stark contrast to the money we pay people to do public service work.
As well as serving the public good, much of that money comes back to the government in tax. From the workers themselves, as well as the businesses where they spend their earnings. So this kind of spending is not nearly as costly to the public purse as some political parties would have you think.
(34/?)
But the bottom line is, of course we can't afford to maintain public services and infrastructure. *If* we continue to piss away public money on corporate welfare, like buying $200,000 missiles that are only ever used for military exercises. When remotely-piloted drones - like the ones Ukrainian and Iranian defence forces are using - can do essentially the same job, at a fraction of the price.

Both #OMIO v0.3.0 and #MotilA v1.2.0 are out now, and both include the same new flexible #BIDS-like batch processor:
#MotilA:

#OMIO:

You can now process #microscopy projects from nested folder trees much more flexibly, with subject/folder-tag discovery, file-pattern filters, skip-if-done logic, and persistent run/error reports.
This is a fascinating and weird failure mode for a #CRT. Circles like that I would assume are a digital artifact, but the rainbow sheen around the perimeter of each one suggest an analog mechanism.
Ideas, anybody?
@tante I do not feel sorry for you. Wishing I could keep a cat.
@chpietsch I would make the same decision again in a heartbeat.
Gig workers are increasingly being ‘managed by bots’ - important decisions about how much they’re paid and even whether they keep their job are being made in ways they can’t understand and that they don’t have any say over.

Bonus hot take: "mutual aid" is a symptom of a failed society. The ideal society is not built on mutual aid. In the ideal society someone can get the resources they need without having to publicly broadcast their own desperation and perform humble supplication for the approval of benefactors. In the ideal society even assholes get what they need with dignity and privacy. Because if an asshole can get what they need nobody can deny you because they "didn't like your tone" or whatever
@Xibanya It's hot in the sense that it's not very knowledgeable or very clever.
This is just failed dreamworld where a good progressive government exists to provide for all without looking who. In order to function in such society you have to be an hyperindividualist and the all-powerful government has to be socialist Narnia.
Mutual aid has a theory and a practice and most of all it has people who actually do the work however hard and it doesn't rely on hyperindividualist misery.

How very normal
Slow cooked beef shin with carrots, onions and new potatoes in red wine gravy, all in a butter and lard flaky shortcrust
@Brynndylow Impressive!
The adversary is presumed to have manufactured a series of tanks marked with consecutive whole numbers, beginning with serial number 1.
literally so fucking dramatic

The mathematical rigor of the delta function was disputed until Laurent Schwartz developed the theory of distributions, where it is defined as a linear form acting on functions.
you can't act on functions bro
#diday
https://slate.com/technology/2026/08/microsoft-software-nonprofit-data-delete.html
Selbst so erlebt.
@cass I've recently gone on a Cassavetes kick and had to pause A Woman Under the Influence during the spaghetti scene. I know Cassavetes is an indie darling, but I don't think anyone could do anything with his work.
@tribute yeah no one should recreate that scene ever again
Albert Camus on the 3 antidotes to the absurdity of life https://t.co/4eM6QR3VtI
@mariapopova when I found Camus sitting on a bookshelf, I was glad to find someone else saw the absurdity.
One of many. 🙃
Reminder, this is our instance's stance on the genocide happening in Gaza:
https://dotart.blog/dotart-blog/masto-arts-stance-on-the-israel-palestine-conflict
It's *very* possible to talk about this without resorting to antisemitism and xenophobia. Plenty of people do it. We also discuss all reports of antisemitism with non-Zionist Jewish people. If we moderate you for antisemitism, it's a conclusion drawn from discussions with Jewish folk.
If it's a first offense, the post will be deleted with an explainer. If you continue, you'll be asked to move.
@Curator The only people who could possibly have a problem with this stance are Zionists, and Zionism is fascism.
Very tired today because I went to sleep an hour too late.
Reason? One of our cats fell asleep in my arm and I didn't want to wake her.
@tante I do not feel sorry for you. Wishing I could keep a cat.
