@jwz Damn!
@ai6yr @mathaetaes @adamshostack @nullpo @mattblaze @NilaJones @helvick @trashpanda @h2onolan So there's some history to this post.
https://ifin-intel.org/blog/ad-blocker/
Mostly that it took me nearly two years to get approval for uBlock Origin Lite as a force install. Why?
All the reasons mentioned in the post. Enterprises really don't like these things. And of course, they go against the browser vendors' (Google, Microsoft) recommendations.
@mttaggart @ai6yr @mathaetaes @nullpo @mattblaze @NilaJones @helvick @trashpanda @h2onolan Yeah. Reminds me of an enterprise that won’t fix their open source when there’s active exploits, and also won’t drop a donation to get that vuln fixed. “Those, are, indeed, choices
Nuclear option.
I have a single AWS instance, with a static IP, not behind a load balancer or CloudFront. How do I block all of Hong Kong? I gather the answer has something to do with WAF but I don't understand.
Please use small words, URLs, and assume that I have no idea what any of the acronyms you used mean.
DO NOT answer questions I did not ask.
When you are doing something and completely lose track of time, oops lol.
Should you trust that doctor? (maybe more relevant today than ever)
(by instagram user @sheadoodles)
I will forever be amused that there are two doctors shown, on directly opposite sides of the graph, played by the same actor.
@jonny yeah sorry again, I went back and deleted your username out of all my follow up posts. My apologies. I just have a ton of respect for the code review stuff I saw you doing, and I remember you specifically mentioning something about those LLM vulnerability checks.
To be clear I don't actually think browsers should NEVER update. I'm really just being hyperbolic to make the point that none of us want the AI in our browsers,
@wyatt_h_knott
I try to not comment on security thingz because its way out of my lane, but the security ppl I know who have weighed in have said its mostly smoke and mirrors, like finding theoretical vulns that couldnt really be exploited in practice. Finding specific categories of bugs seems like something that a brute force machine could do if you just extend the cap on what you think would be feasible to brute force by a zillion, which is what the mythos preview basically said it was doing. Plus, the business model seems to pretty plainly be "mob style shakedown" at best - you must pay for infinite LLM security scans because we've already rented it to the attackers - and self-feeding treadmill at worst - pay us to generate a buggy ass program, and then pay us again to find the bugs we created, etc.
Its not like that hockey stick increase in reported vulns is against a neutral background, sure there were bug bounties and whatnot before, but dumping a bazillion new dollars into automated vuln finding sure better cause the line to go up. I wonder what it would look like if all those billions were spent hiring actual pentesters
Ok, from release notes, 2.49.0 is the last one that has all the settings to coexist with email.
It doesn't seem the F-Droid Archive has any old versions of Delta (main F-Droid has only back to 2.51.0), and if I get the APK from Delta's github, then it's a new signature and I need to migrate my data. This is a weekend project.
I'll tell dad not to upgrade his Delta.
@clacke I'm really pissed off with these decisions breaking my use case. When I have the spoons, I'm just going to set up a standard email client, and get anyone who is willing to install an E2EE chat app to use XMPP or Matrix.
But honestly, I'm really starting to understand why most people just surrender to the status quo. The admin involved in evaluating and setting up replacements is already high, and then every now and then stuff like this happens.
re: subtoot
@thomholwerda A meta thread about why catsalad should be fediblocked and muted. 🤷♀️

@catsalad
Oh lord, that guy.
this is me btw
@stella that's stella!!!!!!!
I appreciate the Mitch McConnell jokes, I do, but it appears that they’re trying to stretch this out until after an August 3rd deadline that would mean there wouldn’t be an election to fill his seat until after the midterms, which would be a pretty egregious subversion of democracy. And maybe we should be saying that a little louder.
@ben I don’t follow. From a pure realpolitik standpoint, Dems should *want* the Senate seat that would normally command another GOP vote to be held by an absent/non-voting GOP senator. If MM is dead, the GOP should want to get the special under way because their odds of winning are good. And Beshear should drag his heels if there IS a death/resignation before Aug. 3 because the KY statute sets no deadline for Beshear to proclaim a special election.
@woozle Hey there! I’m open for commissions and cartooning is right up my alley. I do a lot of stylized line drawings and character work, so I'd love to chat about your political cartoon ideas and whatever else you have cooking up.
@artsbypatrick Do you have standard rates that you charge? Do you have a portfolio anywhere?
My current idea is something like this (feel free to suggest changes):
Scene is outdoors. Guy in a MAGA hat is talking with other people who might be his family (woman, a kid or teen maybe wearing something that clearly signals LGBTQ+ affinity? maybe a younger kid has a friend who looks Hispanic), looking a little sad and bewildered (while also entitled, in the way MAGA-types can do). Off to one side are ICE agents in a cluster all facing towards each other and focused on something on the ground, unseen violence hinted at by their body-language.
The caption is something like "I don't understand why we can't all just get along!"
Possible alternative detail: the family is indoors, and the ICE agents are visible through their front window.
...is that the kind of thing you could work with? Thanks!

My "yes" would be something like they have to put wealth in excess of $1B into a charity fund which is then doled out in some fair way. In reality I can't see this working but in principle it would be nice.
oh shit im baking a loaf of bread and the air quality sensor in the livingroom decided its the end of the world
@Viss RIP Viss
I am terribly sorry to interrupt your doomscrolling, but this morning's Low Quality Ad is for this Fat Squirrel Pin. Look at him. He's bulking up for winter. In the winter, he will continue to bulk up for the summer. He is permanently round.
