I'm not sure that we do.
The last time I was looking at the global potentially-minable lithium reserves, there wsa onyl 20% of what was needed to do a direct 1-for-1 replacement of IC engines.
It was one of the reasons that the discovery of the lithium reserves in California 3-4 years ago, was so significant, as that potentially added another 5% to the total.
We should be using NiFe batteries for the static systems, as they are way safer, and can ONLY be used for static systems. They are very heavy for the amount of energy that they store, so are completely unsuitable for portable system.
And yes, we should be recycling ALL oof the lithium, instead of dumping it in landfill.
