I came across this piece of restored flooring recently. It's a 1,000-year-old stretch of medieval tiling from a Benedictine abbey. What makes it especially interesting is that the monks made their floor from repurposed Roman tiles and hypocaust bricks that they found on site. This seems, to me, to have been a practical, attractive, and environmentally sound arrangement, and I was much taken with it.
Fascinating world of ancient #glass: A #Roman glass model of a #boat, dating 2nd c. AD. It was found in St. Aldegund in a 4th-century woman's grave. Six of such boats are known. We don't know their function: Were they used as women's urinals, as components of water clocks and sundials, as drinking cups?

I am trying to invoke the fleet lessons but my logs all say there is some flag that says "fleet learning disabled for this account" so I think it is not live yet. Sad! In the meantime I think it is so great that the ad industry gets to rebrand "a gigantic database of all our personal data" into "swarm intelligence" by just making the format markdown and using an endless series of nervously chattering dictionaries instead of math as the algorithm.
it does appear that editing the files through the app notifies the LLM in some way, it reverted some prior test edits, but it does not appear to notice when i edit the file through the shell. this is unconfirmed - i was in the process of dumping its raw event logs when i had to stop becasue it was eating up all my tokens, and i sure as hell am not going to pay for more - the only way i have found to dump the raw event db is to ask the llm to do it, which it does after some coaxing, but everything needs to pass through its context window as tokens then.
I should make a list of FOSS apps, projects, and services that have Fediverse accounts and don't code with AI, then strike them from the list with a big ELIMINATED notice if they do start drinking the slop kool-aid.

I long for a world wide web that goes back to basics: Markdown for text, JPEG or PNG for images, *no* Javascript or other client-side execution, designed to be writable by a human being with a simple text editor and no fucking interactive/dynamic bullshit. Make it as advertising hostile as possible. And above all keep it *small* (as in: a large, sprawling web site should fit on 16Mb USB stick).
In other words, web like it's 1996 again.
