Growing up, many Canadians had Hilroy and Campfire notebooks. These school supplies became synonymous with the start of the school year.
But what is the history of these famous school supplies?
This is the story.

Wildbow's other stuff gets a firm recommendation, too. In the same general genre, I can also suggest Katalepsis, which is eldritch horror but very gay and also swings wildly between terror and adorable, and The Wandering Inn, which is a very, very dense isekai with a cast of increasingly ridiculous characters.
Third #Bochum #sunset in a row, on 24 August, now perfectly clear - the Sun right *on* the horizon was way too bright to look at - and with obvious #sunspots: according to https://spaceweather.com/images2026/24aug26/hmi1898.gif these are the activity regions (1)4513 and 4517.
Today I learned that #ImageMagick has been slopped for some time. Like many tools, it's been load-bearing infrastructure for decades.
Meanwhile, the #GraphicsMagick fork has been quietly chugging along for 24 years. For most of that time, it's been maintained by a single human being.
That person has been asking for additional developer help for years now. While I don't have the skills to help directly, I can talk about it while I take their kindly offered toys out for a test drive.

Wow, RFC7725 is ten years old. Just heard that CloudFlare is using it against phishing sites that pretend to be the victim's. Hadn't thought of that but I guess makes sense.
@ramsey I wouldn’t say I ordered from Allbirds regularly, but I’ve had a few pairs over the years.
In the last few years, Olukai has become a favorite of mine. Styles are different from Allbirds, but they do well to match the light and breathable aspects in a lot of their shoes. I’ve got three different pairs of various Olukai styles and I’ve got my eye on a fourth (to replace a different brand pair that’s close to wearing out).
Plenty of retailers carry Olukai shoes, so I’ve mostly been able to buy them in person. But in my experience they run about the same size all Allbirds.
@ryanboswell Thanks! These look good. Do you know if the insoles can be removed and replaced with a third-party insole?
So, I made another thing. It's an alarm tone. I was inspired by @alexchapman when he showed me one of his alarms on val, so I got inspiration to do this. If this turns into your alarm and you hate it after a while, I'm not responsible! Hahahahahaha! Anyway, enjoy!

Since I know the gap thing will come up between paragraphs: Restored the "gap between announcement parts setting to behave properly. This doesn't really effect SAPI since that's not a setting there, so really an update for NVDA folks if you dislike the delay between first-letter keypress and the text following it. SAPI stays at 1.2.0, same asset attached. https://github.com/tgeczy/panthera-speech/releases/download/pantheraspeech%2Fv1.2.1/pantheraspeech-1.2.1.nvda-addon

Sigh, I know I told myself I wouldn't fall into the multi-column social media experience but Nicolium (https://nicolium.app/) is honestly what I wish I had the time to build and is pretty promising imo. Definitely worth keeping an eye on (it also has a regular-single-column mode)
I co-authored a paper, "Testing and Evaluation of Agentic AI Systems In Military Command and Control", with an excellent crew.
I had so much fun working on this and it's finally publication day.
i learned that the reals were composed of equivalence classes of cauchy sequences (sequences where the absolute distance between consecutive entries can be said to converge). my prof vaughan jones (very kind man) was very particular that the sequences themselves cannot be said to converge to a value in any meaningful sense, hence the "cauchy sequence" approach.
we [turning to the audience now] were told that formalizing and codifying the real numbers was one of the greatest mathematical achievements of the early 20th century. what if it wasn't?
what if the reals were taken from mathematicians during that symphony of conquest in the 1940s, led by cruel men who could not accept albert einstein seeing the next dimension beyond euclid?
