to be clear, i absolutely have not figured it out yet. to me it's quite clear there are two flaws that have stalled progress:

• gauss just asserted uniqueness of prime factorization despite multiplication of integers being an inherently commutative operation. he then decided 1 doesn't count. that's the single thing we need!!! yes 1 divides everything arbitrarily often!!!! euclid didn't have a problem with that!!!

• i don't think goldbach's conjecture is true (or at least i don't care). the even integers already have this beautiful ring structure!!!! stop fucking up my beautiful numbers doing their job perfectly!!!!

• the primes without 1 and 2 are their own little thing! they all start from one spot then have these cute little directed edges into composites. but each multiplication operation forms a hypergraph edge.

and i think to model it correctly we need a distinct hypergraph edge for every distinct combination of 3+ prime factors to their products. so an edge for 32 => 9, but a separate edge for 33 => 27. we can calculate transitivity later, i just want to model this!

• then add infinite edges from 22 => 4, 23 => 8, etc, and keep those edges separate. then add a copy of every 3+ compositional edge for each of the infinite powers of 2 added as a new factor.

• then add a loop edge 1 => 1, then 1 x n => n forall n

Talking of which, remember the Oxford University roles I was hiring for? I filled them (well 2 out if 3), even against the direct pipeline whilst being fully open on here about who the client was and being reshared 200+ times in here way out of my network and then no doubt off Masto (my posts have popped up in slack servers and emails!). So thank you, for coming direct to me and trusting me with your time and info, and yay, going with the recruiter was clearly advantageous 😊 as anecdotal proof.

@DerriereLaLune I find AI is similar to other technologies, such as the automobile, in this regard: situationally very useful, but not universally so. (The article "AI as Normal Technology" https://knightcolumbia.org/content/ai-as-normal-technology is one elaboration of this point of view.) Technology is all about tradeoffs; it is almost impossible to avoid conceding some valuable good when using technology to obtain another valuable good, but the best one can do is be mindful both of what one is gaining and what one is giving up when using any technological tool, and explore ways to capture more benefits while simultaneously mitigating or reducing costs.

For instance, the arXiv summaries I was able to get my agent to generate are certainly extremely convenient compared to manually reading all the submissions (which has become quite challenging in recent months due both to increased volume of arXiv activity, and decreased time available on my end), but come at the cost of serendipity - finding an unexpectedly interesting paper that would not have made it to my summary list due to its offbeat nature or lack of evident match with my previously declared interests. I am thinking of directing my agent to try to create some "artificial serendipity" by throwing in a few additional wildcard items to the summary lists, but this is a partial mitigation of the issue at best.
